shoving female pundits into football has little to do with 'selling football to a female audience'.

the demographic of a stadium crowd is what ? 95% male ? similar then on the sofa at home.

Car mechanics, Judo clubs, & football fans.....girls are welcome in theory, in practice they are not that interested.

The mass media are on another one of their gender-bender crusades. That is all it is. And little else. Trying to ensure that gender-enclaves do not exist.

Maybe they should try their social-engineering at a local Religious Building ? ( non Christian )

You don't think money is involved?

That would be a rare. It is the answer to 99% of questions.

When you have to talk at length about men kicking a ball around a field, it must be quite hard to avoid talking bollocks.

In the good ole days the commentator's job was to identify the player on the ball and very little else and I wish that we could go back to those days

Whilst that is certainly true in some professions, the surge in interest in women's football (including at grassroots) would suggest that's not the case here... and so if it's fine in theory, what's the issue?

Not horrible, just cynical. Especially when they promote it as being about inclusion and equality.

It's about selling advertising.

Aren't you slightly worried about a world where your politics, morality and rights are at the mercy of the dollar?

If we are to really evolve as a species, then maybe that is not the way forward.
The wrong people have replaced religious figures, as has been alluded to elsewhere.
I'm reminded of the Matthew 21. Jesus entered a temple of prayer and found people buying and selling there. He threw them out.

Well Jesus won't save us. Only people with the backbone to save us from ourselves, if such people exist

Fair enough - I agree there is some cynicism to it, but it's also just obvious commercial practice. I don't think it has to be either/or.

Everything in the world is at the mercy of the dollar - I'm surprised to hear you express such an anti-capitalist sentiment... I can certainly get on board with that.

Yep. Brian Moore (met him once, lovely bloke) was no nonsense, and you got honest answers from players and managers after the game with no interview coaching or politics.

Sky could prove the point by starting a new channel dedicated to women's football, as they have for golf, F1, the NFL, etc, then see how much of the surging interest reflects in the viewing figures.

Capitalism is the best system we have, but it must work for the people and should keep its nose out of politics.

I'm not naive enough to think that will happen any day soon.
It takes a motivation beyond profit.

Can’t make it through a game these days without one of Carragher’s famous climate change lectures - him and Micah Richards are forever discussing the political landscape.

I don’t subscribe to Sky so don’t have to suffer this. Do they use subtitles by any chance?

If it's such a different game, why was he qualified to go and coach the women?

Cos he was s*** once

I'm not sure there is a surge in interest?

Sport started in this country with natural evolution from villages playing each other to factories and then an organised structured league. The press only reported it because large crowds attended.

Women's football is heavily promoted by the BBC Sky and other media with the reporting on a par with the men's games. However apart from world cup and European Championship the attendance figures for the average women's club game is shall we say average indeed.

A typical game is around 2000 people and how many of them have free tickets or put it another way are paying £50 - £100 for a ticket which is standard for the men's games.

I am not against it just bored that they are trying to push something onto the public which most of us don't care about. The cart is leading the horse.
