Braverman’s description today of the protests as “hate marches” seems to me to be unwise and misplaced.

I wonder how the staunch advocates of free speech feel about such a description and the threat to introduce new legislation if the police fail to act.

I am sure that some who protested did so with hatred in their hearts, but were they organised to spread hate or to protest about the level and kind of response to what all but a tiny minority would accept was an appalling act by Hamas?

Surely you can protest about the humanitarian suffering in Gaza without being accused of anything resembling hatred? I think to do so is an insult to many who simply want the suffering to end.

I have long thought her an awful politician but this has cemented that view. Who is she grandstanding for and why?

Extremely unhelpful intervention which will only exacerbate the situation.

I must admit that thinking that everybody on the March is hateful of Israel was a bit strong. What we will never know is what percentage of those marching would still protest if Israel had done nothing and just accepted the invasion. Would they be protesting against the aggression by Hamas and the killing of innocent Israelis? I don’t think so and that might be why Braverman said what she said.

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

They weren’t marching before the invasion so no they wouldn’t be afterwards against Israel alone but many of them, and others, may well have been marching in support of a long term solution. There has been, and continues to be, plenty of condemnation of the Hamas action. There is no shortage of that.

The question now is whether what Israel is doing proportionate and wise, in the long term? Or will it exacerbate an already dangerous situation in the region and embed hatred and a desire for revenge in another generation?

The question about Braverman’s intervention is what it will achieve here? Will it quell resentment in the minds of those who believe violent action is the only solution to what they see as decades of oppression, or will it make things worse?

Why did she do it? I don’t think it has anything to do with Israel or Gaza. I think it only has to do with Braverman and she is playing politics with her own ambition.

Can you imagine being a Jewish person at Liverpool St station yesterday.

It's only a matter of time before one of these mob events turns nasty and there is serious injury or worse.

I fear there will be trouble at the Cenotaph memorial event.

The Met cannot/will not cope with mass civil unrest, the numbers are too many.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.
