Not heard of Liverpool's Boot-room then?

Which was closed after the appointment of Roy Evans.

Right, so Liverpool's model from half a century or more ago.

I'm not dismissing the idea BTW, again I'd be interested to listen albeit I'd have serious doubt as to the comparison between modern day football let alone Palace now compared to L'pool then. That's just not enough however to base a stance of trying to ridicule and demean any other opinion.

For what it's worth, I still have a lot of love for Paddy and 'on paper' the idea of him being ready made and upskilled to step into the manager position is of course an ideal one. I just fear and would expect that the romanticism of that may be far removed from the reality.

Its a hard decision to make, the Hope is that he carry's on the obvious closeness and happiness of the squad by keeping the equilibrium, or gambling on someone who still has a job and is doing well, i think Roy would be honest enough to give his opinion on Paddys ability to take over. is it a gamble to give it to Paddy or a gamble to pick a manager who is untried or failed somewhere else

Agree.

I think I am already contemplating, in either scenario, is there a 'Plan B' for whatever our 'Plan A' will be? Ever the optimist

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I would not want Southgate or McCarthy.
Southgate is seriously overrated. Be better working for the FA
McCarthy just doesn't have the experience (it's Roy's experience that has got through games sometimes).

Gary O'Neill is an interesting one. Bournemouth were glad to get rid of him. I bet they would welcome him back with open arms now. Not sure Wolves would want to see him go though.

One manager that had not been mentioned that I think has done a terrific job on very limited resources is Jon Dahl Tommason at Blackburn. They never seem to struggle to score goals, though do let a few in. But we have a great centre back pairing.

Also, having Tommason would help in getting Adam Wharton.

A manager not far from Blackburn has also performed with some aplomb.
Step forward Ian Evatt.

I hope it’s not Southgate - just not good enough and weak in my opinion. We’d have to ask Roy to come back by Christmas to get us out of the hole. Parish has to stop this obsession with ex-players.

It’s tough to work out who would be good enough, but just not Southgate, regardless of those that bleat about the England job. The premier league is a different kettle of fish to international football, where you’ve got the pick of the best English players.

Maybe you are all jumping the gun. What’s going to happen if we have a great season? Roy may well stay longer.

The only reason we've done as well as we have with such limited resources is because we're incredibly tight at the back and don't ship goals, and that's not simply down to having "a solid paring at the back".
He's doing an alright job yes, but it's fundamental to our survival that we get that right before anything else, so a manger who is happy to concede goals on the notion that we just outscore the opponent will only spell disaster. Pardew 2.0.

If we have a great season, surely Roy will be inclined to step away – walking into the sunset bathed in valedictory glory.

That's one thought. Personally I think Roy couldn't resist the thought of another season, and Parish would be more than happy as it would give him another season to procrastinate.
What therefore would constitute a "great season"?

I think 7th or 8th would be a great season with our resources.
