As an ex striker himself what are everyone’s thoughts on Freedman’s inability to pick a striker since Murray? Benteke, Sorloth, Mateta, Eduard?

A heck of a waste of funds…

Freedman was made DOF on august 21st 2017, Sakho was signed 6 days later, so since then we have signed:
Sorloth 14m, Kouyate 8m, Sako 0, Guaita 0, Meyer 0, McCarthy 3m, Ayew 2.2m, Cahill 0, Eze 16m, Butland 1.1m, Ferguson 0, Clyne 0, Guehi 19m, Andersen 17m, Edouard 15m, Mateta 10m, Olise 8m, Hughes 6m, Plange 1m, Doucoure 21m, Ebowei 0, Johnstone 0, Richards 10m, Franca 17m, Lerma 0, Hendersen 18m, Holding 1.2m

In my opinion, overall an excellent selection of signings, I personally hold Freeman in the highest esteem as a Player, Manager and DOF for Crystal Palace

You can not judge a striker in a Roy Hodgson team and all of those mainly played in his all out defence, gutless and boring set up.

Any decent striker that we could afford, should such a person exist, will be in big demand. How would you sell Palace to him over say Brighton, Fulham, Brentford, Wet Spam etc

His overall record is probably slightly better than average. Nothing more than that. I wouldn’t be unhappy to see him go.

i would, and i wouldnt think he would be out of a job too long by his record, which isnt slightly better than average, its first class, with Eze, Olise, Andersen, Guehi, Doucoure and Johnstone alone, he has turned 81m into about 330m, not his fault the managers don't know how to use them, his mandate is to buy players cheap which can be sold on for profit.

Loved him as a player, thought we were on to something as a manager until he left.

As a DOF......I'd give him a B-

Enough decent players there, but also a fair bit of dross.

By and large the expensive players were/are the good players.
As yet, no profit turned from a recruited player except Sorloth
Huge gaps in squad
Contracts extended unnecessarily

we didn't make a profit on Sorloth. As we had agreed a 2 year loan and he was sold after 1 year the Turkish club played hard ball and we gave them 50% of the fee.
Seems a bizarrely high % to give away, but that's Palace for you

We have been in administration twice, the latter of which almost killed us. This sits like an obelisk on the tummy of the club and it informs the desire never to go there again and to run the club on sustainable grounds. Good or bad, this runs through the club and gives us our cheapskate persona.

Likewise, in all the years I supported the club, our best players were poached. This was usually by the usual suspects, but not always. I suspect this history also sits heavily on us and is why the club's mentality is to never be a selling club again. This has its down sides. Players are kept on past their "use by" dates, especially ones with poor injury records.

On a positive side, players may be told when they are approached, go anywhere you like if you are only searching for a rung on the ladder. At Palace, if you perform and make the cut, you have a top flight career well into your 30s with an adoring fan base. Settling down for 10 years must seem an incredible package to the modern player, starting a family etc. It is the modern EPL equivalent of a job for life.

Around twenty players who didn't make it were not on that list.

I don't think Dougie is a particularly good DOF - if I tell the truth he was woeful to begin with.
However, I noticed our signings becoming more astute over the last couple of years. I presume Dougie has learner the hard way with our massive over paying for average players. We always, however, have a lot of dead wood on high wages. I believe contracts are also within the remit of DOF.
If I were to think of Dougie's best role - surely it would be scout in Ireland and Scotland. I know it's nothing like DOF but frankly, I've never thought Dougie qualified for that role.
