This is simply not true. Nearly all the players brought in under Freedman were recommendations from others. Jedinak for example was suggested by Popovic. Delaney was suggested by Fleming, Bolasie was a punt that paid off, Glen Murray was a free from Brighton that a everyone in the Championship was keen on at the time.
In fact the only player I'm aware of that was a Freedman signing through and through was Aaron Wilbraham. We all know what a huge success he was!

Did they all tell you personally, or is your information as normal second hand.

It must be a tough one.
He would appear to have a good reasonably safe comfy position at the Palace.
With the job he is being offered at MU it could go anywhere.
Can't believe we can't match whatever they are offering.
I suppose it will depend where he wants to be and his levels of ambition.

As at Bolton.

He knows the way to Moan U its near to Bolton.

As an ex striker he should know exactly what we need and have done since Murray scored 30 in the championship...see u later Freedman

On the one hand he wont be having conversations with the chairman about whether they can afford a player. On the other he will actually have less power at Moan United than he does at Palace.

On balance though I think he will go for it. Dougie has a reputation of courting a player e.g. Olise and Franca and sweet talking them into coming to Palace.

If he goes I wonder how many of the current targets he is sweet talking will then go to United instead of us.

According to an item in my paper this morning, Dougie is on the short list for the sporting director role at Newcastle.

Ollie has said that Dougie was a strong influence on his decision to join us and the two would appear to get on well. Hope doesn't go just yet, but can't help thinking that Ollie might know of a suitable replacement.

Dougie is clearly seen as a canny lad so not surprising that he is being courted.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Freeman would be a bigger loss to Palace, than either Eze or Olise.

You cannot compare the two as they work in completely different departments of the club but in terms of immediate impact its ridiculous to say Freedman would be an instant loss. He works on the recruitment!
Losing Eze or Olise would affect the team immediately. Its arguable that Should Glasner know of a good recruiter from his time at Frankfurt or Wolfsberg and the club moved quickly that Freedman may not be missed at all.

Dont underestimate DF achievements. They are obviously the reason other clubs come looking.

With Fast Eddie Howe failing to dazzle with vast resources at Newcastle, who knows if Dougie is not the sprat to catch a mackeral and reel Glasner in to a Champions League campaign role on Tyneside?

He couldn't turn down all those Saudi Billions could he? Or am I paranoid?

It is my opinion having spoken to people that are (have been) closer to the club than me and know far more about the subject than I do that Freedman's 'achievements' are largely overestimated. He has had some successes yes but many of the players Palace have bought in during his time as DoF were not on his radar but recommendations from others. Thats not a problem as far as I am concerned. It doesn't matter who finds them as long as they are found. The belief that everything we do in the transfer market is down to Dougie Freedman is (and I believe he would agree with this if asked) a myth.
If a severely desperate Manchester United decide to listen to rumour, gossip, the media, his friends and decide Freedman is the man for them I say good luck to him. Pay rise, bigger budget, bigger office, moving costs covered, etc. Who'd not be interested? If Newcastle want to do the same, again I have zero hard feelings towards Freedman. He was disloyal when he walked out to join Bolton but thats long since forgotten. He has done some good things for Palace and as a player he gives us all some great memories.
But do I think the roof will fall in, the lights will go off or the world will come to an end if he leaves? Not at all.
