Optimistic I’d say but nothing wrong with that. Would certainly be more fun than we’re having now!

Teams have runs where luck favours them, primarily with injuries. Our unexpected rise under Dowie had him fielding essentially the same players every week. Leicester had a good manager that season, but they also went trough the whole season without any long term key injury. Imagine if we get a Mitchell upgrade, keep the current squad, improve the mental resilience and fitness levels, and they all stay fully match fit.

The difference between where we are and 7th place is only 6 wins. Given the number of leads we have squandered, largely as a consequence of depleted squad and confidence - problems that can be resolved - this is not optimistic it is realistic.

We just have to survive this one...

Just pointing out that if your talking Ranieiri, No they didn't. The planets aligned for him and all he needed to do was take a team that Pearson put together. They were a side that were turning a corner without Ranieiri, and the most credit he can take was that he kept it a happy camp and kept eveyrone fit. oh and brought Kante in... a gamechanger which would have probably have happened anyway.

"It was a Team effort, I guess it took all players working together to lose this one"

I'm as equally as optimistic about next season. We've been dead unlucky with injuries this year even with the back ups. Franca and JRS all at the same time as Olise. Chambers at the same time as MG.

Bring on next season

A very reasoned summary. I largely feel the same way.

The rational side of me still sees the cold blooded maths: 4 or more teams need to overtake us over our final 7 games, against 4 of which (essentially 5, if you write off Sheffield United) we have a game in hand.

That said, we do not seem like we are in control of our own destiny because of how results have gone both before and since OG arrived.

I can see us staggering to 17th and within 3 points of 18th come the end of the season, although if we treat each game like a final I hope we kick on and get the couple of one off wins we need to ease supporter and player nerves.

I see these once off wins as important: I can see our flair players playing much more like we know they can once they are worrying less about the table.

I think the poster may mean Holding, who's injured.
I think Holding is average at best, but he probably would have got his chance with the injuries to Guehi and Richards.
The one that got away may well be O'Brien, who's now apparently attracting interest from clubs such as Everton.

indeed, Holding not Chambers. Brain fart.

But basically the same player. Not good enough for Arsenal, and not good enough for their new team. Happy to spend their entire career sat on the bench

I did not expect that amazing result yesterday and while we are not technically safe, I can now see how we will stay up.
Much humble pie to be eaten over the coming days as I was convinced that we were on the way out.

We need a 7/8 point swing for mathematical safety. i.e. Luton/forest lose points or we take them.

I'm one of those that remembers oldham so wont be happy until we hit that milestone.

Everton 2.13
Palace 1.67
Brentford 1.4
Luton 1.3
Burnley 1.1
Forest 1
Sheff utd 0.78

Two important games this weekend are Everton V Forest, a cup final for both and Luton V Brentford. A don't lose for the Bees.

It looks like Everton go into the Forest game on the back of a trouncing at Chelsea.

If Burnley Win at Sheff utd they will still hold a hope of making the great escape!

Everton 2.22
Palace 1.67
Brentford 1.55
Burnley 1.27
Luton 1.18
Forest 0.9
Sheff utd 0.7

Both Luton and Forest lost their big games.

Its now perm any 3 from 2. Burnley will be hoping they can pick up something at Man U Saturday and that the other two both lose. Burnley will be hoping that they can stay within touching distance of Forest so they can stay up with a final day win V forest.

The mini league table suggests that its going to be close.
