i could have predicted you to not understand. Failing to comprehend what all the other Eagles, on here, are cross about.

Explain it to me then... specifically why this time is uniquely unacceptable versus the historic examples.

Can someone explain to me why this has never been an issue previously?

Artists and designers have been offering 'interpretations' of national flags for as long as I have been alive - I have provided a couple of examples further up the thread.

I'm just wondering why this time it's so uniquely unacceptable/offensive?

I guess you didn't read my remarks. I have no problems with individuals such as artists redesigning iconic images. That is not the point Both the FA and The British Olympic Committee represent our nation and have used the flag as a giant PR exercise since they were founded. They make no bones that they are representing the nation, I doubt an artist unless they are Lilly Allen claims to speak for the country.

The flags have been used in countless wars that our men and women have shed blood for so yes some people might be a little sensitive.

As I said previously it is not up to the likes of these organisations to unilaterally change our national symbols. If people don't like it start a campaign engage with Parliament and the public but don't do it in a sneaky fashion and then get offended that the public are offended.

The examples I provided are specifically from Olympic Games or the FA, so I'm still not understanding what is different this time round?

once again, you are missing the point ...there is a significant difference between unable and unwilling.

I would happily explain anything to anybody, on here, that i like and/or respect.

now do you finally Capiche EverybodyDannsNow ? or can you find a normal to explain it to you with showcards and a balloon ?

You can dress it up whichever way makes you comfortable, it's very evident you're swerving the question.

That I don't have the respect of someone who can't write in full sentences is of little concern to me.

Is there an answer to the question other than it being something you either feel or you don't? It's like asking why these colours should appeal more to young people.
Personally I don't see the need to change the flag and when brand recognition is the goal changing an iconic image seems a strange choice in terms of marketing.
Everything changes over time but whether the representation of the flag should be left to ad men is another question.

I don't think it is - I'm not asking anyone to like or dislike the flag for artistic reasons, I'm asking why the difference in reaction to when this has been done previously?

I would guess it's the perceived cumulative effect of various changes over the last few years.
Another guess is that this is more an age rather than politically related opinion.

Are you saying that because a given attitude, or lack of an attitude, was commonplace in the past, that rules out having a different attitude in the present? Should we tolerate racial discrimination now because it was commonplace in the past?

Nope, I am not.

I am asking what has changed since the numerous other examples in recent years to now? Why would someone be unbothered in 2012 but molten with rage now?

My reaction to both has been exactly the same, so I am asking someone who has had a different reaction this time round to explain why.

I'm not sure why that would be controversial.
