Quick reminder that after that run of 14 games, Everton face the only 3 sides Palace have beaten SINCE SEPTEMBER and all at home. After the first game they are 1/1.

It doesn't matter a jot that they have to play Arsenal and Liverpool. They have 2 more golden chances to win that don't include Forest at home where they will also be favourites. Meanwhile, we don't have a single fixture left that we are favourites for. Surely anyone would swap our fixtures for theirs in a heartbeat?

Cannot see us getting more than another 3 or 4 points so quite possible Everton will finish above us.
We need a very unexpected victory to keep us clear of the bottom four !

Not at all. We would be unlikely to get anything at Chelsea (never do), Arsenal and Liverpool. As for Forest, Luton and Brentford? All teams we have poor records against. Only Sheffield United presents a decent 3 point return.
Whereas our fixtures? We may not be 'favourites' for Newcastle, Villa or West Ham but with our strongest (or close to strongest) team out I'd fancy us to get 5 to 7 points. Thats probably all we need.

this morning : Everton could have pipped us, in the table, with a simple Draw.

that has now become them needing a win.

Everybody knows that wins are not easy to come by. A 0-0 wont be enough.

Personally, i think Brentford will get above us. But 3 other teams will not all get above us.

Feeling Glad all Over.

Some sense!
As mentioned, it may not be unheard of but only the most pessimistic glass half empty Palace fan would now think Luton, Forest, Everton AND Brentford will all overtake us. Sometimes I wonder if some on hear are really Palace fans. There seems zero positivity or belief in our own team at times like this.
The Willo fella is a prime example. 'I dont think we'll win another game this season' Really? Why bother if thats truly how you feel?

I do feel for the Everton supporters. They overspent and yet were still awful. From a football perspective, they are very dogged and strong defensively but they have very little to offer going forwards, the lucky goal against Burnley saving their ars*s. If DCL can rediscover some form they should be ok, but otherwise, they may have to hope some draws see them over the line. Brentford definitely look the best side I've seen in the bottom half of the table of late. I also think Sheffield Utd and Burnley could do us some favours as they are both showing a bit of fight and in recent games look better than they did against us.

Hopefully we actually stay up on merit rather than relying on others though.

The worry isn't unfounded. We've only won 7 games all season. 6 of them against teams in the bottom half. And 4 of those against the bottom 2. So even the most optimistic fan will agree that we are finding wins hard to come by.

So no, its not obvious where these wins are conning from. 7 games left, against:

1 team chasing the title
1 chasing CL qualification
3 chasing Europa league

So the 2 easiest games are both away, and whilst they are not in the hunt for anything, Wolves at least are in with a good shot of the top half.

The form of the chasing pack is pretty awful, so the chances of them all overtaking us is very slim, but we aren't doing much to help ourselves at the mo.

Our last 3 games against Forest, Luton and Brentford mustered 5 points with a goal difference of +2.

Our last 3 games against Newcastle, West Ham and Villa mustered 1 point with a goal difference of -6.

Using our past record of losing against some of the teams Everton have to play, and then ignoring our record of losing against the teams we have to play, is convenient but very illogical.

We might get 5-7 points and I really hope we do, but our records and the league table both say we have more chance with Everton's fixtures.

Im kinda hanging on to the thinking that its unlikely the relevant teams below us will all overtake us & the fact that its live sport , the end of season games often throw up surprise results -
(hopefully in our favour)

I am very confident that if we get close to a full strength, fully fit team back in the next week or so (something we never had when playing earlier this season that you are ignoring when spouting stats) that we will get the 6/7 points needed.
We will probably lose to Liverpool which the intelligent amongst us have already factored in yet the doom and gloom will crank into overdrive straight after that game. Even though we already know its a free hit! Joke.
I wouldn't describe myself as a particularly over positive Palace fan but I cannot believe some of the negativity on here. The main reason for our poor results this season has been the awful injuries to key players throughout the entire season. We are finally starting to get everybody back (even Doucoure might make the final couple of games) and everyone still seems to think we're going down. Stats are the past. Regardless of what you might believe they dont tell you the future.

Hows that pessimism going for you today? Found any more stats that point to our inevitable doom?
As mentioned again and again (and not just by me) its the injuries to key players that have made this seasons results (and your stats) so disappointing. Yesterday proved what a level Palace can play at when we have close to a full strength team available. Yes we rode our luck a bit in the second half but our defending was superb. On another day we could have been going in at half time 3 0 up.
As said before I am very confident we will pick up another 4 to 6 points between now and the end of the season. Probably more.
I just wish the doom and gloomers amongst us would just hold their nerve during the rough patches and have some faith

I think part of the problem is that too many fans have bought into Hodgson's practice of "bigging-up" the opposition in pre-match press conferences so that even to gain a point from the ensuing game is a minor miracle.

Glasner, refreshingly, always looks at what we can do by playing our game and ensure we make life difficult for the opposition by identifying their weaknesses and using them to our advantage.

Then, of course, the doom mongers always like to play the "Oldham" card.

I think I've been pretty consistent this year in saying we can hit 40 points again, and as I've posted elsewhere, we gained 8 points in the reverse fixtures against the upcoming 6 opponents and I see no reason why we can't at least match that.

i reckon the FA are doing a balance between

a) deducting points and meting out justice

and

b) keeping the relegation fight exciting and interesting.

i reckon they will nail Everton again in May, thus keeping Luton up.

but then again, what would i know ?

33 points is probably already enough. The bottom 5 teams are gash.
