ASH would have you believe differently, however if you read their comments about us being a drain on the NHS then i think you will see what a bunch of idiots they are. Surely achoholism and even the consumption of fatty foods is of equal drain to the NHS but they quietly skirt over that issue. Well said HorshamEagle. The reality is that the tax that smokers pay on cigarettes pays a massive chunk of the funds needed to run the NHS and the government know this. I'm increasingly concerned that this country is becomming increasingly intolerant of everyone, with the anti smoking lobby being one of the most vociferous groups. As a doctor, over the years I've seen many illnesses/injuries that are attributed to drinking alcohol, people who probably could improve their lifestyle with improved diet and a bit of exercise etc and I've even had a case of a little girl who was seriously malnourished due to her parents feeding her on a vegan diet, but live and let live, people make their own choices and we should be tolerant of that.

Madcap, you obviously have no idea on addiction, If smokers had a choice i'm sure the majority would stop smoking, but it isn't that easy. You can throw the word "disgusting" into your argument as many times as you like but it doesn't get away from the fact that many people have habits that we dislike but as tolerant society we have to accept these.

Sorry but I don't see why I or anyone else has to suffer from someone else's weakness. True we all have bad habits but is scratching your balls, picking your nose or biting your nails going to have any effect on others when done in public? Methinks not. As I said before, I have a very low tolerance with smoking because I'm asthmatic. Yes! We all do suffer from peoples other weaknesses, peoples weakness that they can't walk 10 minutes to the shop instead they drive, polluting the air and me. Peoples weakness that when they've had a few pints, them and 6 mates attack you and leave you bleeding on the floor, do i expect drink to be banned? of course not. As previously said passive smoking is caused by being in a very small area which is non-ventilated, not being in an open stand at football. I do feel that non-smokers love having a chance of getting one upmanship on smokers, they love looking like us as scum, i really don't think they realise it is an addiction.

Smokers will suffer most. If they had more respect for non smokers then there would be no need to ban it from most places. Smoking will be banned from all or most public places before too long. I am longing for that day. If smokers could just be more considerate at football and hold out for 45 mins Im sure most non smokers would respect them for this too. We all have vices but this one clearly affects people directly. I want CPFC fans to bring more children to the game and if banning smoking helps then all the better. Im sure smoking is now a minority habit in our daily lives (apart from silly young teenage girls). So lets all have a thought for each other and respect our health. As for moving stands its not possible for me to as other places are full and I dont want to sit in the back corner somewhere,
