Exactly! It's the governments fault I'm racially abusing people because they look, sound or behave slightly different to me! Thanks for the clear up, was concerned I was a thick, knuckle dragging racist for a while but this makes me feel much better.

Optimistic as ever

People are people. They aren't perfect. Given the necessary amount of social or financial pressure, some will react poorly.
Clearly the vast majority won't react with abuse or violence but the minority that do are just the visible and ugly edges of a much greater discontentment with how immigration has been handled over the last few decades.
There might be a few genuine racists hiding in the shadows but most resentment has little to do with race or hatred. It is more about self interest.

It is a sad fact that stirring up resentment has been a tactic of politicians just about forever. In recent times it has been more prevalent in the form of so called reverse racism.

I did not hear one overtly racist remark by the Leavers during the campaign but I did hear a lot of accusation by the Remains regarding racism and xenophobia.
Sadly, accusation of that type have been a mainstay of politics for some time when tackling anti EU or better control of immigration proponents like Nigel Farage and UKIP.

No one will deny that there is a hard core of far right extremists but equally there is always a hard core of left wing extremists or fervent anarchists. We don't hear much about them.
