And one further thought, I reckon if I rang the police to say someone had whipped my pink beret from atop my head they'd probably hang up on me so they could p*ss themselves laughing.

Normally, I'd not be surprised, given he can be a bit of a c**t. But on this instance he'd done nothing except be in the wrong place at the wrong time. So I quite happily gave evidence and helped the police push what was really a minor incident they did not want to pursue, simply because the attacker was totally out of order.

I'd say a physical assault is in an entirely different realm than some bloke being a bit of a tw@t and pinching a hat off your head. If he were not a celebrity I doubt very much if the police would be in the least bit interested (and that's what I have an issue with - you should be able to expect the same level of service from the police regardless of whether you're a bloke minding his own business in the street or a 'celebrity').

If anything, a bloke gobbing off like a crazed maniac subsequently having his beret pinched should have even less police focus than the likes of you or I casually walking down the street in one and minding our own business.

Its stretching it to say it was really physical assault, one punch and my mate didn't even have to go to hospital. I've seen plenty of people get worse and never pursue it. Point being here was it was because it was utterly unprovoked it was worth pursuing. But yes, there is a difference. The police weren't interested, but because we kept pushing the issue, they had to do something, and in the end the personal cost to us in time off and lost wages, exceeded the fine and the compensation. But it was worth it, because the c**t got a criminal record. That beret might have been pretty expensive, the bloke who nicked it might have been a persistent pain etc. In the end, the decision of whether something is 'worth pursuing' has to come down to the victim of the crime.

He's a friend of mine, he's still a c**t who is remarkable for his ability to enrage people, and a relative inability to handle his drink. If someone ever had told me what happened, I'd have said, what did Neil do to provoke them. But in this case, beyond all reasonable expectations, he was utterly innocent.

You have a pretty high threshold for what constitutes assault! It may not be ABH or GBH (as they depend on the outcome of the action as well as the action itself) but I think most people would say a punch in the face ticks all the boxes for assault!

I'd say, even as someone who voted out, that if a party went into a general election with a manifesto built around a second referendum, and won that election - then that I think would be grounds for a second referendum. I also think its essential for the UK to have a general election based around manifesto's detailing the party policy towards UK post-EU. I sure am !!
Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

There were kids at my primary school who would nick the hat off the kid who had cancer. They didn't even get suspended let alone a criminal record. As an adult i'm sure he was annoyed but once recovered let the police moan at him, but nothing more is necessary is it? Unless the hat thief and him have a long running spat perhaps.
