I am addicted to sending small monthly sums I get trapped by the TV ads. Its got ridiculous but how can you stop it makes you feel so guilty.

The poppy is a political symbol though right? Even more so now than ever with people kicking up this much fuss about it. England played on Armistice day a decade ago with no poppy to be seen. Bizarre recent crusade with such a fuss about it being on a shirt. Have a nice military parade and a minute's silence before kick off and be as dignified as possible without this boring arguing over it.

You are in your 30's right? I knew what the Poppy represented when I was 5 years old and it aint political or religious. If people want to support their right to wear a poppy then it is no one else's business. All this bollocks about the Poppy police annoys me too - no one is forced to wear a poppy or donate to the cause.

Now I could be a cynic and start talking about who started the various wars or about some soldiers who went about killing innocent civilians, men women and children but that would rather be a side issue. My grandad got blown up at Vimy Ridge, they patched him up and sent him back to war. Afterwards he said it was an awful waste and deeply resented having been sent to war and losing the use of his leg. My father got shrapnel wounds at Monte Casino. It was important to them to remember lost comrades. And they respected the 'enemy's' right to do the same. To me this is not political, it is remembrance without critique. Decrying the concept is like saying you can't do anything special for the Day of the Dead in Mexico. It's what we do, it isn't advertising, it isn't political and it's important.
