Get Ur Freak On cover by Eels and Death Is Not The End cover by Nick Cave. Just thought of these. Chaos Engine's mental cover of Barbie Girl is cheerfully tacky as well. And the whole of Sigue Sigue Sputnik's Elvis cover album is a joy.

The Stones have done a host of wonderful covers that I love, mostly recorded in their early days such as the aforementioned Route 66 and Not Fade Away, along with I'm A King Bee written by Slim Harpo, Robert Johnson's Love in Vain and Carol and Around and Around, both originally recorded by Chuck Berry. And it might interest some to know, if they don't already, that the band will be releasing a new album of blues covers in early December which sees them going back to their roots once again.

When I think of great cover songs, one of the very first that springs to mind is Jimi Hendrix's reworking of Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower, also mentioned earlier. Lots of Dylan's songs have been covered by other artists, with another favourite of mine being Johnny Winter's version of Highway 61 Revisited.

One more I've always loved is the cover of Muddy Waters' Baby Please Don't Go, by Van Morrison's band, Them. A version even the Stones would have been proud of!

My money is on you being Michael Ball and you've been trying to ingratiate yourself on this forum so that you can self promote by stealth. You don't need to confirm or deny, but if I am right change your HOL status to a "Yes" for "Yes I am Michael Ball" or "Sausages" if you're not.

Lots of covers I like but these 3 p1ss all over the original

Song to the Siren - This Mortal Coil (aka The Cocteau Twins). (Tim Buckley)

David Watts - The Jam. (The Kinks)

Twist and Shout - The Beatles. (The Top Notes)

My pick of strangest choice of song to cover is Boyzone doing Baby can I hold you tonight. A song by Tracy Chapman about domestic violence and hence, a not entirely suitable pick for a teen boy band.
