Exactly so why would anyone in their right mind swap Gomis for Adebayor? You can presumably train anyone even footballers not to stray offside all the time but its easier than trying to train someone the skills of forward play in the premiership in 2017!

I think it's almost certainly what he meant. Doesn't detach from the fact he was f**king useless, but I'm not convinced his commentary was aimed at Palace specifically at all.

I don't think he's excusing it. That would have involved blaming the club or manager. He's actually doing the opposite, and admitting it was a mistake.
