This is not helpful. Eating meat will not kill you. Eating excessive amounts might harm your health indirectly but it is very difficult to nail down causes with all the other potential risk factors involved.

Each individual has to decide what they wish to eat. I lay off Bacon and cured meats because the buzz is that their preparation is harmful. I don't eat red meat generally more than once a week. I exercise regularly.
Will these measures make me live to 100? Who knows.
Will any of us see next week? Who knows. Will worrying about it all be just as harmful? Who knows.

I can give you some anecdotal information: since become vegetarian (on my way to becoming vegan - just can't seem to cut out eggs and cheese) I feel much, much better; sleep better; have more energy; have become leaner (but not actually losing weight which suggests a shift away from fat towards lean muscle); s*** better and really enjoy the varied flavours of my food.

My wife is enjoying all those same benefits, plus she has suffered from colitis for years now which has completely disappeared since ditching meat from our diet. The one time it flared up again was the one time we "cheated" and had a 6oz steak each; she had colitis the next day while I woke up that night drenched in sweat.

Oh, and our grocery bill is much cheaper (once you've stocked up on the oils, herbs and spices you need for tasty vegetarian cooking).

Do what you gotta do Ray.

If you go without certain food stuff, especially meat, which requires more digestion and then suddenly eat them again, you will give your body a shock. People kid themselves about all sorts of medical stuff. You have to do what you think is best.

A little bit of information can be a dangerous thing and too much information can be a constant worry.

No, it isn't. Again, it's called science. They use things like control groups in studies to eliminate other factors.

Yes, it's your choice to eat meat. But it's not your choice to deny the science that says, for example, that the causal link between eating meat and getting cancer is statistically as strong as the causal link between smoking and getting cancer. It's scientifically proven so, until you can prove otherwise, it's a fact.

I agree that eating a small bit of meat caused a shock to our systems. The whole ecosystem of intestinal bacteria changes once you eliminate meat as your body gets rid of the unnecessary meat-digesting stuff and focuses on veggie-digesting stuff.

However, you cannot deny how I feel and look, nor how my wife feels and looks, on a vegetarian diet. The only downside to it is people like you who feel the need to issue a pre-buttle to vegetarianism despite the fact that I say nothing about it unless asked first.

You're killing yourself with meat, but you seem ok with it and that's none of my business. The global meat industry is the largest single contributor to climate change though, and that's everyone's business, even those who don't think it's real.

Means nothing. 3% of a chimps diet is meat.
Canine size is not a good indicator.
It seems to me that humans might have begun to eat more meat as they moved to a colder climate where meat was the densest and most available source of nutrition. Just my theory.
We are drawn to what is nutritious and in the modern world, all food stuff is readily available in large quantity. That is where the health problems start. Sugar, salt and protein is appealing and we now eat too much of it.

On the whole vegetarians will lead a more healthier life in general. They are unlikely to smoke and drink heavily and they probably are more inclined to keep fit, practice yoga etc. They are often middle class with more comfortable life style and living conditions. It is not just what they eat that perhaps extends their live by a few months.

The problem with meat is that it tastes so good but if the world stopped eating it tomorrow then the planet would be a much healthier place in more ways than one even if there would be suddenly 5,000,000 retail units up for grabs. And that's just in Texas.
Seafood is better anyway.
