I doubt that Punch makes enough errors to warrant that.
I bet his fingers aren't as big as mine!

Unfortunately Luka has to share some of the blame for having his penalty saved by Emerson, the ball falling to KDB Citehs quickest player being looked after by our slowest player. The result being inevitable, I am not condoning what Punch did but given the circumstances I think most players would have stopped de Bruyne one way or another. As it happens Puncheon has come off second best and it seems KDB isn't too bad.
Nothing like kicking someone when they're down

Glazier1 made his edits because he had made errors. Are you saying Punch knew he made an error? Many in here wouldn't agree with you. It has been suggested he had to be crocked to stop the attack, probably would make the league more open and interesting, Punch took one for the team. So no, Punch wouldn't have had to do it any other way.

I see far worse every week on MOTD.
It was naughty - a definite yellow but not the GBH suggested by some.

I'd never want to see players injured and the league is a better place for players like KDB but this was an attempt to stop an attack not kill the bloke.

Blown out of proportion.

Ok.

It's been very interesting to read so many comments on here on the subject.

As the OP, I have to say that my point was to see how our own supporters viewed the incident.

It is clear that many on here see absolutely no malice or danger in Punch's foul; most believe that it was the result of rustiness combined with a realisation that something had to be done, at all costs, to stop Citeh from breaking.

Having made the original comments, I have reviewed the incident over and over.

Yes, it is true that Punch is not and has never been known as a 'hatchet man' in the slightest over the years.

Yes, I accept that Jason's intention was not to injure KDB.

Yes, the fact is that our captain had only one thing on his mind at the time: stop City at all costs. I accept that many see this decision as 'run of the mill', 'taking one for the team'.

As it happens, that decision has caused great injury to himself and he is lucky (and it is only luck)that the injury to KDB wasn't as bad. The fact that this happened is because Punch lost his head, it would seem.
The term that is used to describe this sort of challenge is, usually, 'rash'.

Not premeditated or systematic, I accept, as some have described other 'assaults' on our players but rash, reckless and dangerous nonetheless.

Am I a turncoat expressing my opinion here?

It is clear that we have a jewel of our own at Palace and so many of us are heartily sick of what is meted out to him on a weekly basis. Many of us feel that these attacks on him do not get punished properly. I agree: it's a disgrace.

I love the game and hate it whenever I see talent smashed and destroyed illegally. I feel that if the game doesn't respond swiftly, fairly and consistently, then we all, as fans, suffer. No matter who is on the receiving end.

Old as I am, I still remember the great Pele walking off the pitch in the '66 World Cup, hobbling and in tears after the Bulgarians and others had been allowed to line up and to kick him to pieces under the eyes of the refs on duty. No doubt the Bulgarian and Portugese fans loved it but they were the only ones who did. I'm not saying that Punch or Palace are guilty of such cynicism, of course not but my point is about the illegal stifling of talent by those who can't live with it. Bad for our game.

Do I care more about Wilf and not about other players? If I'm honest, the answer is no. They do it to Wilf because they can't live with him, he's too good for them, as the saying goes. The same is true, I have to say, about De Bruyne and it is players like these that we watch the game for, isn't it? Or are we, in truth, only concerned about our own team winning, no matter what?

My hope is that all fans hate to see the guilty go unpunished, no matter who they play for. It's my opinion that Punch should have seen red for his recklessness. Does that make me a sky blue? Of course not.

I love the Palace. Always have done. I don't want to be taken over by some billionaire and be able to buy the league. Whatever we do, we do it our way. And yes, The lads did us proud against City as they have done so often in the past.

They have worked miracles after our disastrous start and Roy is, truly, a great manager in my opinion. One of ours, for sure. A gentleman (rare)and a coach of immense insight, talent and experience. We're lucky to have him, aren't we?

I'm sorry if I've come across as anti or disloyal. Not my intention at all.

I've expressed my opinion and I'm pleased I did.

Bumpy ride, though. Lol. 'Red Card' 'Obnoxious' 'Self righteous''Patronising'

Over and out.
