Basically I agree; but wonder what his thoughts are regarding the GK situation? Lets hope we do not pay for not having got one in.

I guess he will be disappointed about the goalkeeping situation but we have managed so far with only two so let us hope our luck holds for the remaining games.

If you can furnish evidence to prove that we only approached at the 11th hour then you will win this mini argument. If not, then you will not.

My guess: we try to do business under the radar given the number of poaches we suffer. I suspect Dougie et al have been forced to sweat for months waiting to see if the hoped linked deal will come off at Brondby. For no fault of our own it did not.

Perhaps read the HITC link posted at 18:01 (sorry cant post the link) before saying I have lost the argument.

3 squad players is a gamble but it is not an outrageous one. Roy has the tactical knowledge and skill to keep us up but he does need a bit of luck with injuries. One or two more in key positions and we'll go down. I hope that if we stay up Roy has been promised some proper signings in the summer.

Spot on and also the comments about Roy and the new recruits who I'm sure will get the best out of them. Allardyce last year got in PVA, Schlupp, Luka and the Beast on loan so spent a lot more. Roy needs to be backed like that in the summer if we stay up.

Not a Parish basher but if the report in The Independent is true and we actually lowered our bid to Getafe yesterday then that’s poor and indefensible.

We’ve seen that Hennessey struggles to retain form and has twice pulled out of games with knocks this season. Jules is coming up thirty nine which makes it all the tougher to step in after not playing and Roy has said several times we need a third keeper.

Not really prior to us having a precontract agreement he was there player and they could ask whatever figure they wanted. After that was signed he only had value to us as we could be only buyer and we were buying out a dead contract ie early release. So at start of January that was 3.5-4 million Yesterday probably nearer 1. Today zero

We're Crystal Palace. We make up the numbers in this division along with 12 others. We're gonna get relegated in the foreseeable future no matter what.

We badly needed a GK, we didn’t get one. This will come back to bite us in the arse for sure.

Made us look Mickey Mouse and didn't get us the GK we need now. Then we're scrambling around trying to sign one from Brondby.

I think SP did the best he could, it was mostly down to the other clubs not playing ball. SP did get in sakho and said at the time we are pushing the boat out. We got 3 players in and 2 goalkeepers on the way in the summer so onwards and upwards.

I think this transfer window could have been worse and it's never easy to get the right players in. But I can understand some of the frustrations aimed at Parish's transfer strategy and that it can certanly be improved upon. I recall him saying that clubs will realize they are not going to get better offers nearer to the end of the window and that raises the chance of getting players at a good value but it could work in reverse as this transfer windows shows us with clubs jacking up prices at the dead because they know we are desperate to sign players. And as I remember, we didn't really get Benteke or Sakho for significantly cheaper from their initial value.

Also, found a couple of interesting reads that I thought may shed some lights on our other transfer alternatives.

All in all, I believe we should put the window behind us and get behind the team and new signings. Hopefully they will turn out to be real gems and at least do their bit to help us stay up. We could then look forward to a better Summer window.

Having just gone through another mad January I thought it apt for a moment of balanced reflection ....
FOR
Man City are able to fish in their own private pond (so to speak) targeting a player months in advance and knowingly without virtually any fear of the deal being hijacked due to their wealth and the attraction of the manager and coming into a hugely successful team.
Coming down the water ways the rest of the top 4 have the next rich pickings some with competition but most of the time getting a free route.
Then you come to the likes of us going after many players for one position on the basis that they may have competition from numerous clubs and with it a bidding war and in January the risk of paying above the odds. The days of the likes of CP earmarking a player and conducting exclusive negotiations are IMO gone. It is now very much swimming with the Sharks and by that I mean AGENTS. It is not in their interests not so much their clients to have this situation as they want the best price possible as their % based commission rockets.
So we become one of a number going after the same players.
A set budget that was intended to cover say 4 players suddenly gets whittled to 2 as also the wages increase as well. The latter probably a bigger consideration.
How much our budget was I don't know but I feel that this maybe one of the reasons why we went into the sweet shop wanting a kilo of wine gums, only to end up with a couple of aniseed balls!
So I appreciate that the board and recruitment staff would have hard huge challenges.
AGAINST
As I have said previously dealing with us must be akin to pulling teeth and must put as at an initial disadvantage. I agree that we have to be watchful of our financial position but not at the expense of losing key targets. What happened to Guita the GK, this went on for the whole of January and in the end we allegedly have another in for a medical with it all going pear shaped at literally the 11th hour. Net result no new keeper.
From the outside our policy seems muddled and this has been the case for a few Windows. We have covered 3 positions which is a positive and barring more injuries I feel this will be enough to get us through.
Summary - in the.circumstances a decent job from the board but as always it won't please all.

You can't liken agents to sharks because the shark is an alpha predator, not a parasite. More like leeches I think.
