We need to set a price for Wilf and a deadline by when it needs to be hit. We need an early confirmation from Roy that he wants to stay. We need to work through all the out-of-contract players fast and work out which want the shilling we're willing to offer, and which don't.

We have a world cup to contend with and a window that shuts on Aug 9. With so many variables and so little time, we could be in serious trouble if we don't make fast, good decisions.

All this, and I personally am assuming our net transfer budget won't be vast given recent expenditure.

Very true. The worry is we are again in an Allardyce situation. Speaking on the radio about Everton, maybe he will be returning if Roy hangs up the reigns ?

A friend of mine once backed a horse at 50-1, and won a fair wedge.
Relegation can still happen, but no doubt plans for either scenario are already being constructed, or are in place.

I backed Connacht to beat Toulouse in the European rugby cup once on the basis that I saw they were 100/1, while in there to bet on a football accumulator. They won.

Great post. I have to confess that I am a pessimist ("no, really") and all season (every season) I have been expecting the worst. Just a whiff now that we might be all right. If we stay up we will need one heck of a Summer if we have any chance of having a better season next year. A huge amount depends on Roy staying another season.

Set a price fir Wilf, why? That's just saying to him, he isn't wanted and we want to sell him.
Roy is under contract, so its up to Palace if they want him to continue. He doesn't strike me to be as shallow as Dowie, Pulis and Allardyce, more of an old fashion man with morals.

Even an old fashioned man with morals might think that enough is enough if he isn't backed properly in the transfer market

Keeping Roy and Wilf is essential for our survival. Why on earth would we set a price for Wilf? So that other clubs can see how much budget we have for his replacement?!

Thing is we’ll need an entire new game plan if Wilf goes and there’s a good chance of us failing to do it.

Continuity of management would be highly welcomed on many levels - and I don’t think Roy is going anywhere.

It needn’t be that complicated or hard to recruit in the off season. The Watford’s and Burnley’s seem to do well each year with minimal fuss. We’ve shown that we can be quite succinct in the past with signings like Tomkins. Pretty sure that we’ll have our ducks in line this summer and get things done nice and early.
We had the f*ckeries of FDB to contend with last summer and I think it’s left a lot of fans with the jitters.

I'm not saying the price necessarily has to be public knowledge. We just need to be clear about our valuation early and if it's not met by x date, he stays. The critical thing is that we have certainty in Wilf EARLY in the window.

Roy is under contract, so its up to Palace if they want him to continue. He doesn't strike me to be as shallow as Dowie, Pulis and Allardyce, more of an old fashion man with morals.

Definitely more moral fibre than those two but he might genuinely want to retire and I have no doubt we would let him.

The story goes that Brede Hangeland was asked by Pardew to scout his own replacement when he retired and he picked Tomkins
