Schlupp has been woeful for all 4 games. I’m not sure what he brings to the team. Left back cover for me.

He will end end swallowing my fist before the season is out if he doesn’t shut the f*** up. Rant over.

The only way the guy next to you isn't going to moan all the way through a match like that is if you're sitting in the away end. HTH.

First half was really poor today.
Can understand why you would sit deep and defend at home to Liverpool, but to do the same against Southampton?
It was obvious that it wasn’t working and the early part of the second half was more of the same.
I like Roy and he’s done a decent job, but on occasions he seems tactically inflexible.
I think this narrow midfield doesn’t suit Schlupp or Townsend, who after all aren’t midfield players.
There was a marked improvement when Kouyate and Meyer came on.
As a footnote I would add that I think Luka is missing Cabaye and doesn’t look the same player at the moment.

I agree about Luca and Cabaye and it is a good point I hadn't really thought about. I wonder if Meyer could do a similar job as Cabaye with Luca?

Massively frustrating afternoon.

The starting 442 line up badly lacked guile and creativity and left our only decent carrier of the ball in Townsend playing too deep.

We should have been three goals down before Roy, at last, changed things and that should have been Ayew off, Meyer on and 433 / 451. However, Roy isn't responsible for Benteke and others missing so many chances.

Ayew slow and lacked Benteke's presence.

PVA and Schlupp's decision making in the final third and crossing was terrible.

The (normally decent) ref had a poor game not helped by his linesman.

Kelly looked lighweight against some rough and experienced forwards and defends better against the younger and quicker players.

Luka poor / jaded and, as others have inferred, needs Meyer in front of him.

Hennessey and Macarthur our best on the day.

I’m not sure Luka can play in central midfield 2 with Mcarthur ( who incidentally I think has started the season well).
I thought that against Watford, and today, we we were outfought, outpowered and seemed outnumbered in central midfield.
Last season’s good form coincided with Luka, Cabaye and Mcarthur in a fairly tight midfield controlling the game.
Hopefully we can revert to this with the new players once they have bedded in.

thinking about it we actually made some decent chances today, twice in the 1st 20 bentekkers thru only to fall over be tackled, jimmy mac hit the bar & PVA had a cracking effort.

meyer looks like a cabaye upgrade when he starts i think things will settle down and we will pick up points

Central midfield 3 of Kouyate Meyer and Jimmy Mac. Luka was poor against Watford and today. Roy needs to keep Wilf on the wing when he returns. Ayew up front. Sorloth is a championship striker at best and Benteke has had more than enough chances.

I draw the line at slagging off AWB for every little mistake. The guys a prick even if he apparently “supports” the team.
