Some excellent and relevant points put forward by Maple about the realities of Brexit, a voice of reason. Brexiters are now in complete denial mode, in the face of real life concerns over the impending turmoil and economic harm. 3 months away with useless politicians that cannot agree, no deal, no direction, complete uncertainty, yet people still call it project fear, unbelievable. The disadvantages and negative impact is there for all to see, yet brexiters cannot list single benefit other than tired slogans

And there was me thinking that you were one of the more sensible posters but you have deliberately misinterpreted what I said. Far from using "it as a shorthand in order to incite fear that your political opponents are using scaremongering tactics" I quite clearly stated that Project Fear was "a very appropriate label when used by either side to incite fear if they don't get their own way" so nothing to do with my political opponents at all.

The operations manager at Dover dock was frank with the C4 news people, stating that he faced 'Armageddon'. East Midlands Airport and the NFU followed in similar vein. As he looked out of his window at Dover one of those double-length lorries pulled up with large letters on the side 'BLAIR'. Noone seemed to notice, I was tickled.

Surely the issue, if we take nursing as an example, is the pay and rewards are so low and the effects of austerity and public sector pay freezes means not enough people coming into it and has nothing to do with brexit

There was some of this going on more so in Scotland I think but it's been progressively watered down. I did an IT Masters in 2001 and the Scottish Government paid the fee and a reasonable maintenance grant but I don't think it does any more and they definitely didn't do that in England. OTOH there was also the NHS Bursary scheme but I think that's in line for more cuts now. Some degrees are just there to reduce the unemployment figures as far as I can see. A lot of them seem to represent specialism at entry undergraduate level which is stupid because the student needs broader reading and knowledge around a subject at that stage.

Yes, I think I took that wrongly. And thanks for the compliment So is your point that you also see it as a meaningless label but it makes plenty of sense if you consider that the label itself generates fear and fear influences action more than anything else? I still don't think that the people supporting remain use this label though.

The country lasts for longer than a couple of years.

It would be helpful if employers offered the support. In Germany there are very well regarded qualifications earned on the job, we are rubbish at that. But be careful which Degrees you write off. I was at a lecture where an IBM recruiter said their favoured Degrees were Classical Studies, Philosophy and Theology. We have to remember that Education is not Training. The well-educated tend to take to training far better because they have learned different ways of thinking.
