If, in the aftermath of the 2016 FA Cup final a substantial amount of evidence emerged that Clattenberg had been compromised to favour Man Utd, wouldn't we all want to get to the bottom of it? Even if it meant a time-consuming exposure through the legal system? Your "thrusting knives" and "gaping wounds" drivel doesn't cut it with people who are interested in the truth.

If it actually gets there the real question is whether they have the balls to apply the law and throw it out if, as most legal minds believe, none of the assertions has any merit. The truth is what this is all about. It's a pity that some seem to believe alternative versions of it. If investigations are needed as vehicles to help heal then bring them on. Not one dem came out with anything strong enough and now let's sit around the camp fire singing kumbaya holding hands. For someone who claims to be so worldly wise you do surprise with a bit of naivity at times. I can accept that you did say 'try' to heal but come on really!

Criminals were and they were condemned in strong terms by Biden. Some will always exploit genuine protests and the protests were the result of heartfelt grievances and were peaceful until exploited. Who knows who did the exploitation? There have been suggestions that the hard right got involved to make things look bad, but that's unproven. You cannot start to heal unless you try to heal. The first step etc etc. I can see an awful lot o cheek turning being needed in the coming years.
