Non sequitur The spread of the virus is highly relevant and to date has been for the families and friends of 2.4m people. That is in less than a year from a totally standing start. We were, literally, defenceless. Flu kills between 300,000 and 650,000 a year depending on the strain.

The best argument for total inoculation coverage is that it can't make things worse and that it reduces spread.

Then it’s whack a mole but from a low base No, we will get a lifelong vaccine at some point, or at least one with long gaps between boosters.

We still don't have a perfect flu vaccine, and we have had years to perfect it. I am yet to be convinced that total coverage is necessary, but I am happy to be convinced with hard science. One little problem is the estimated 1.5 million illegal migrants who won't turn up for a jab. Failing to defend our borders might bite us on the arse in ways we didn't imagine. The Left won't want to talk about that.

Yes, I'm sure the drugs companies want a cheap one jab vaccine that will never need to be repeated. Particularly, not every year.

I get the feeling coercion will be widespread. Get a job, provide proof of vaccine. Get a flight, provide proof of vaccine, go to a concert/football match etc.

I'm not sure now a lifelong vaccine is possible due to mutations. The common flu influenza viruses mutate every year and that is why there is an annual vaccination program. I see no reason why this will be any different - in time it will become part of the usual annual winter flu drive. Interesting that common colds are mainly caused by (much weaker) coronaviruses. I would imagine that technically means they could also be vaccinated against but obviously the financial case is not really there to develop them.
