Cascarino hardly ever finds anything positive to say about Palace, although even he doesn't suggest Roy should go now. He thinks we should go for Gerrard and move Roy upstairs 'to give advice and support'. All very interesting. As for Parish, don't fret lads, he has a cunning plan. I think we're all praying for this POG!

I think sometimes it's easy to forget that even the lower premier league teams can have individuals of great value. I can't think of anybody in our recent XI who has anything like that kind of value. We still should have played better stuff than we did, but I don't think we were the stronger side on paper at all. Areola is a top keeper, agreed. Andersen will have a good career no doubt, but has been deemed not good enough for the Lyon team for this season, and when you compare his CV to Cahill and Kouyate, it’s at least a contest. Robinson didn’t start and even if you count him, he’s got one semi-successful championship season under his belt. Compare that with PVA. Tete had a good reputation in the same youth team as Jairo (see we have them too...) but has not achieved much since. Ward has ~200 PL apps by now. Loftus Cheek is a good player, agreed. Lookman is highly rated but equally never settled anywhere and never put together a big season. As much as Everton and Leipzig bought him, they’ve also both been happy to loan him out. It’s not to say any of these are bad players, but the idea that they’re so superior to us that we should just be happy to get on the pitch with them doesn’t make sense to me at all. We’re a team of experienced internationals who have all played top level football for their whole careers... Like I said, Roy has convinced you that we’re this bad, it’s not reality, and any objective comparison of squads would support that. Reed and Tosin have been two of Fulham’s best players this season having been deemed not good enough by Saints and City respectively.. when did we last sign a player who improved or we got more out of through a system change? Anguissa looked woeful last time they were in the Prem, now he’s really effective.. what changed? Cairney was club captain at one point and now poor performances mean he got dropped.. same with Mitrovic.. compare that with Mili and Benteke. The only difference is a competent manager trying to do more than just finish every game with a clean sheet.

Yes, well reasoned, I can certainly see it as a positive toward the skills of Parker as a young up and coming manager.

Wouldn't disagree with some of what you say, and I'm quite clear in my own mind that we could have taken the game to both Brighton, and especially Fulham, more than we did. My point really is that we don't have a demonstrably stronger side than either of those two at the moment. Perhaps an alternative exercise might be to list the ones of theirs you would happily swap for ours. For me, and sticking to actual ability right now rather than long term value or previous achievements, I'd take seven of theirs over ours at least, probably only keeping Koyate, Cahill, Eze and perhaps Giuita. That's not Roy convincing me the rest are crap, it's them just being crap, or at least not as good individually as the players they were up against Yesterday.

There are a few but my top two choices right now would be Julian Nagelsmann or Steven Gerrard. Both managers seem destined for the Premier League at some point or other and if Spurs hang on to Mourinho then Nagelsmann to another established PL team in London is not beyond the realms of possibility.

I’m hoping Brentford come up as they seem to have a very forward thinking business model with managers and the type of players they find. It would be interesting to see how they get on. With Dyche he mixes the long ball and pressing game and gets the best out of very limited resources. We could end up taking a very long punt and end up with another Frank de Boer, although I think SP has been bitten once.
