Agreed, watch it again. He wanted to play, then the defender wrapped his arms around him, so our "advantage" was gone. Then saw the ref wasn't calling it and made a move to play again, only for the defender to wrap his arm around him again.

Harsh to call this as bad. Let's face it, under last year's rules, he would have gotten 4-5 fouls that weren't called this year.

Surely the reason he didn’t run forward is that the defender had wrapped both arms round his ankle to stop him doing just that. I think I might have complained at that too

Defence:
CBs are excellent.

Guita is a problem. I've always thought his distribution was terrible and now its a real issue. As for the constant punching...And while I'm at it - I think he had a poor game last week at Chelski.

I didn't see much wrong with Mitchell or Ward but we could do with LB cover, for sure. Reckon Clyne plays when fit.

Midfield:
Thought Kouyate's first half performance was one of the worst I've seen from him. He did get better. Gallagher put him self about - not used to seeing that from our midfield - notwithstanding Jimmy Mac's tireless work. He was my MoM. But the midfield didn't really create much.

Upfront:
Wilf has had better games but the ref had a shocker. the rugby tackle in front of the Holmesdale towards the end of the match was terrible, as was the non-advantage decision.

He's moaning too much though. Losing sympathy with the fans - alot of folk where I sit weren't impressed.

I've seen Benteke and Schlupp play better and worse. Ayew was ok for the short passage he was on the pitch. Made stuff happen.

I personally feel that for a new approach we played in places. On the train after the game I got talking to some fellow Palace fans. They were far more downbeat on the performance than I.

One made an interesting point, that we dont have the players for this new system - we're a counter attack team with players who run with the ball. Maybe he's right - we need Olise and Eze back soon either way.

Initially, yes, but Wilf quickly broke free and had good space ahead of him to run into with players waiting for a pass and he just stood still and waited for the ref to give the foul, allowing the defender to wrap arms around him again (because as I've said several times since the game, with Wilf now, it's all about him and not the team).

Don’t forget that the Brentford player involved had already been booked. Definitely a yellow card but Atkinson just doesn’t like Wilf

Mitch was very poor and looked like a little boy caught in the headlights with passing a particular issue.
Benteke was again slow in the leg and not making the right run.
Ward was average at best.
With the way Veira wants to play it out from the back, I think we have real problems this year with Ward and Mitch.
One of the reasons Guita looked like he might make a howler with his clearance indecision was because he didn’t want to pass it to either wide backs particularly Mitch who never asked/showed for a the ball.

The beatings will stop when morale improves.

Ps Zaha had an off game but we can’t expect him to be a our saviour every game.
Gallagher looks class thanks god.

I think you're being somewhat unfair to Wilf re the last 2 years. I've said my piece about his mediocre performance on Saturday (and his selfish moaning attitude).

I agree his performances two seasons ago were not anywhere near his earlier standard BUT in the first half of last season he performed well for us in most games. I accept the second half of the season was less impressive but he was injured and may have carried that injury into some of his performances.

This was pretty much my view too. I fully expected the Brentford player (#6, I think) to be sent off as he was already on a yellow.

Wilf, Kouyate and Guita can all play better and need to ASAP.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Maybe he can’t get over being totally embarrassed at Arsenal, when he couldn’t book Wilf quick enough for diving, only to have it overturned and had to give a penalty.
Wilf does himself no favours with his attitude at times but some officials need to take a long hard look at themselves.

Maybe that is why we are after Hughes, a mobile midfielder who can pass, PL ready and only 26
