No it isn't. A conspiracy theory was put forward.

If you really believe that the Tory MPs employing tactical voting during the election of Truss is a conspiracy theory, then OK. I disagree. Especially as some have hinted that this was so.

I think it is obviously true. It's also the only logical explanation. Truss isn't, and never was, PM material. She confirmed that many times during her short time in the job. She talks in clichés and doesn't understand the basics of economics. The MPs collectively are only too aware of that, and are generally more competent than she is.

The mistake the MPs made was over estimating their membership and not recognising that many members would vote before Truss's plans got fully exposed and mauled by Sunak. That was more probably a tactical error by Central Office than by the MPs.

Or maybe they're not all such political masterminds and genuinely
thought she'd be a good candidate. In any case these geniuses were prepared to create turmoil in the country on the strength of a gamble.

If the UK is to maintain any kind of credibility then King Charles needs to dissolve parliament and call for a general election. Don't think it went that we'll last time King Charles tried it though. The country needs a leader and all the options are not potential leaders. I wouldn't let them work in a Pound Shop, let alone run the country.

Latest figures apropos backers show Sunak in the lead with 52, Johnson is on 51 and Mordaunt on 19.
It does seem likely that both Sunak and Johnson will reach the 100 figure.

Gordon Brown told the markets that he was going to dump a ton of Gold , dropping the price of gold.

Even a fool, who sells off the family silver, doesnt make that rookie error.

It was serious error from the PCP. Had they the time over, they would have put aside their factional issues for the sake of the party (and nation) and put a better candidate up against Sunak.

The membership voted Truss as the anti-Sunak. Of the 2 front runners, if they now put Boris up against Sunak to the members, Boris will get it. If they put Jeremy Corbyn up against Sunak, Corbyn would get it. If they put Captain Pugwash up against Sunak... you get it.

Penny Mordaunt (or like) could be PM now if the party had engaged brain. Now we are stuck with 2 years of Boris (aka Silvio).

Will one of his first policies be introducing compulsory Italian into the curriculum?

We are a political laughingstock - even the Italians mock us - and will remain so until the next general election.

It truly is quite extraordinary that of the 12 years Labour were in power, all Tories have to hit them with is the gold sale. Honestly, it is literally ALL I hear. They never, for instance, refer to the colossal under sale of the formerly nationalized industries or the eye watering losses to the public purse (and corresponding enrichment of the bankers who caused it) following the financial collapse. And these were supposedly the party with economic sense.

I am no socialist and did favour both the bail-out and privatisation; but at the correct prices.

For the party to have any chance, Boris needs to stand aside and lend his vote to Mordaunt (see post above).

Unfortunately, Boris places - in priority: 1 Himself; 2 Himself and then (and only then) 3. Himself.

Gordon Brown acted correctly in 2008 imho.

The sale enabled the UK Government to pay off a substantial part of the national debt and keep repayment interest rates down on the remainder.

There is no real reason to hoard a pile of gold, I guess as a
precaution, much better to put 50% of it to work.

It has become a typical tory myth.

Look at UK debt now it wouldn't make much of an inroad would it.
