Not sure about the SP situation. At the end of the day he is a business man and I would have thought the right money talks.

I am surprised nobody has made a proper offer for Palace. All the ingredients are there to create something big. The right person or consortium could pick up an established team for a lot less than one of the big clubs. From a business point of view I buy old houses renovate and create a new product worth more in a different market. That makes the most sense to me. It seems the best option for someone looking to get into the premier league too. Chelsea and City weren’t that big a couple of decades ago now nobody can think of them as anything other than a big club.
For Palace the Exposure is already there with broadcasting etc. Just surprising that more investors haven’t bought looked at us.

No he will hang around this is the best pay package he has ever received. (I believe he wants that stand complete and will consider leaving after)

The ground is a turd this will put people off and the current owners want too much money at one stage we had people linked with the club but the value was close to how much Newcastle went for which shows how out of reality the owners at Palace are.

Big clubs generate better revenue and tend to have larger fan base.

Good take on things in general.

Parish seems to do things in ‘ cycles ‘ The re-appointment of Hodgson indicated to me that this was going to be a fallow season with survival once again the only realistic target. In other words the club is playing for time
. I’ve said it before, but the talk of a push to a top ten finish this season was based upon what exactly given the strength in depth of the squad ?

To me that is short termism, and it’s been derailed by events such as Zaha’s 11th hour departure and the number of injuries we have had.

My expectation was/is that at the end of the season the club will have identified and appointed a manager that can take the club forward over the next 3-4 years. And that manager will receive enough financial backing to enable that to happen in tandem with ongoing development of players from the Academy.

However, in our current predicament, Parish may not have the time he was hoping for in terms of the next manager. Defeat and even a draw tomorrow would leave Hodgson on the brink. And then it’s possible Parish will have to appoint someone that’s chief attraction is their immediate availability.

If ever a season has been wasted, it’s this one.

I think this is a good point.

I had a difference of opinion with an other poster about our transfer spending. It all depends on when you set the target dates. So when we spent £80m of the Textor money we were one of the big spenders of that season. However if you looked at the previous 5? years we certainly weren't.

As you suggest we appear to go in cycles probably because that is the best Parish can do with the current board. In a perfect world we would be a mid table spender each year rather than fallow then bountiful years.

SP goes on (and on) about South London being a great catchment area……but it’s also a bit of a millstone in limiting ground development and providing any affordable and available sites for a new stadium. Even a club like Burnley, whose ground is similar to ours in age and size and turd-likeness, given some investment could I suspect easily source a site for a new stadium.

Cities and towns with only one club have a major advantage of their London rivals. They can move their ground to an industrial estate on the outskirts of the city.

In London go north you hit Spurs and The Arse, go west Chelsea / QPR / Fulham go east Wet Spam and Orient in the south Charlton and Millwall to name but a few.

I don't understand the argument about catchment area at all given the money that's thrown around by the richer clubs and scale at which they operate. That and ease of travel around London. Load of bollocks IMO.

I think progress is harder than it looks when you have among the lowest free cash flows in the division.

However, I also believe that John Textor's involvement has precipitated some kind of decision making/ investment stasis at the heart of the club.

Bournemouth are doing alright. I would say they have overtaken us this season. They are building a new training ground and will probably have their new ground before a single spade is put into work on or one stand.

Sadly, the owners don't have any incentive to make a major investment in players. They will make a massive profit upon selling the club in 5-10-15 years when the all the boats in the PL will benefit from the rising tide of worldwide interest.

I disagree. Surely a wise investor looks for potential and not the finished article as the finished article has no room for improvement. It’s all about value for money and Palace would be relatively cheap to buy with potentially a big upside.

It would not surprise me if we have already had numerous approaches by wealthy consortia and individuals that have been turned away by Parish because they wouldn’t leave him in charge. I don’t believe he wants to let go of the reins.

Your last paragraph is spot on and imo it is true

Lampard did not turn us down. He was not wanted. The rest of your post I tend to agree with

Correct it's what I have been saying about SP small minded business man.

Global market yes I know some fans are not happy if not real fans come to the game but that is what you want to attract new fans and you do this by allowing tourists as such all the big teams know this even West Ham has used it since they jumped ground.

Sticking with only your locals is not good business this is what you expect from teams in lower leagues.

Correct. And i would add that the start of every new season is always 'Day 1' of another Relegation Dogfight.
