Jobi McAnuff
Palace saw off Swindon 2-1 to go into the draw for the fourth round of the FA Cup, reports Peter Gillman.
Battling both a lively Swindon side and atrocious weather, they went ahead with goals from Shefki Kuqi and Jobi McAnuff.
Swindon got back into the match with a late goal to bring an anxious final ten minutes for the home fans.
Palace took the lead from a corner on six minutes. Kuqi leapt highest to meet Stuart Green’s inswinging kick and headed the ball down into the left side of the Swindon goal.
Swindon responded strongly and ex-Palace Jamie Vincent missed a clear header from a corner inside the Palace six-yard box.
Then Leon Cort saved Palace twice - first with a last-ditch tackle inside the area on Swindon’s Roberts, then heading off the line with Scott Flinders beaten.
Palace pressed hard at the start of the second half. Kuqi blasted wide after being put through by Dougie, then Green took a pass from Dougie and chipped his shot against the Swindon crossbar.
Palace went 2-0 up on 70 minutes, when Mark Kennedy touched the ball to McAnuff who beat his man and crashed the ball home from the edge of the area.
Palace seemed to have the game under control but Swindon got a goal back with six minutes left. After Butterfield conceded a corner, Ifil headed home across a crowded area.
Moments later Timlin blasted over from a tight angle. Referee Friend turned down strong Swindon appeals for a penalty in the final seconds of added time, and Palace were through.
Palace: Flinders; Hudson, Cort, Ward, Lawrence ; Green, Fletcher (Butterfield 76) , Hughes (Kennedy 69), McAnuff; Freedman (Morrison 79), Kuqi.
Subs not used: Wilkinson, Scowcroft .
