Crystal Palace's attempt at reaching the playoffs are dashed as they lose 1-0 to Plymouth.

Danny Butterfield came in for the injured Matt Lawrence, and Shefki Kuqi & Mark Kennedy returned from injuries to warm the bench.

Plymouth could have had a penalty as early as the fifth minute when Barry Hayles thought he was pulled back in the box by Gary Borrowdale, but Referee Russell Booth turned down the appeals.

On 15 minutes Ben Watson had the best chance for Palace when he collected a pass from Tom Soares and hit a low shot which was saved by Pilgrims keeper Luke McCormick.

Soon after it was Carl Fletcher's turn to have a shot at goal. This time his shot went agonisingly wide.

On 37 minutes Leon Cort came close to scoring when a Michael Hughes cross was headed back into the box by Mark Hudson, and the former Hull man was there but his effort went just wide.

After the break Palace were hit with a sucker punch. Plymouth's Scott Sinclair (on loan from Chelsea) picked up a long ball, beat two defenders and then struck the ball past Kiraly.

Peter Taylor attempted to turn things around by introducing Dougie Freedman, Kuqi and Lewis Grabban, but Palace failed to make their efforts count.

Plymouth Argyle: McCormick, Connolly, Seip, Doumbe, Sawyer, Gosling, Norris, Nalis, Sinclair, Ebanks-Blake, Hayles.

Crystal Palace: Kiraly, Butterfield, Hudson, Cort, Borrowdale, Soares, Watson, Fletcher, Hughes, Scowcroft, Morrison.
