Crystal Palace secured their first league win of the year in style with a 4-0 thumping of Watford.

Chris Martin netted a brace and Wilfried Zaha and Kagisho Dikgacoi got the other goals after some awful Watford defending.

In-form Watford started the brighter of the two sides but the Eagles went ahead after 22 minutes when Zaha turned home Jermaine Easter's right wing cross from close range with keeper Scott Loach making a hash of the save.

Palace stretched their lead in the 38th minute through on-loan Norwich striker Martin. Ambrose sent over a deep free-kick into the penalty area and Martin took advantage of slack marking to head past Loach.

Five minutes after the break Palace made it 3-0 with another set play. Ambrose passed his free-kick to Easter, who teed up Martin on the six yard box to slot into the back of the net.

Then Dikgacoi made it four after diverting in an Ambrose corner at the near post under the body of Watford goalie Loach.

Palace: Speroni, Clyne, McCarthy, Gardner, Parr, Jedinak (Garvan 84), Dikgacoi, Ambrose, Zaha (Scannell 72), Easter, Martin (Murray 71).

Not Used: Price, McShane.

Watford: Loach, Doyley, Nosworthy, Mariappa, Hodson, Hogg, Eustace, Kacaniklic, Forsyth (Yeates 73), Iwelumo, Garner (Massie 46).
