Crystal Palace were pegged back by Coventry City to draw 1-1 at the Ricoh Arena.

Darren Ambrose got the Eagles off to a superb start, netting a fourth minute penalty before substitute Cody McDonald scored the equaliser 10 minutes from time.

Just 90 seconds had elapsed on the clock before Jermaine Easter accepted a long clearance from Julian Speroni and set up Chris Martin, who was felled by Nathan Cameron in the box.

Referee Mark Brown had to consult with his assistant before awarding a penalty kick and Ambrose fired it home for his seventh goal of the season.

Speroni kept Coventry at bay with a number of quality saves - twice from Clive Platt and Gary McSheffrey, with the latter also having a 'goal' ruled out for offside.

The Eagles responded with an effort from Easter that went over the bar, Mile Jedinak forced keeper Jo Murphy into a save and Martin sliced a shot wide.

After the interval, Murphy denied Martin with a fine stop while McSheffrey had the ball in the Palace net again - but this time referee Brown whistled for a Palace free-kick.

The home team eventually levelled the scores in the 80th minute when Palace did not properly clear a corner and McDonald fired past Speroni to score.

Kwesi Appiah made his Palace debut for the final five minutes but was unable to net a late winner.
