Team news

Palace boss Ian Holloway is set to shuffle his pack for the trip to Bristol City. Goalkeeper Neil Alexander could make his Eagles bow after joining in the summer, with Lewis Price out. French duo Florian Marange and midfielder Elliot Grandin could also make their debuts. Winger Jerome Thomas might play after missing Palace's two games through injury.

Bristol City manager Sean O'Driscoll could rotate his squad too after his team have failed to win their opening four league matches. Forward Marlon Harewood is ready to make his first start since joining earlier this month.

Quotes

Roy Hodgson

"I think we'll be making changes. I think the other lads need a game, so I will have to give them that. And it is about getting some points in this division. That is the truth. We have to do that quickly, otherwise it builds and builds.

"I'm not pleased we're playing so quickly after the Stoke game. I should be locked in a room with my chairman, trying to get some more signings in. But this is just the way it is. It is absolutely manic, completely and utterly crazy."

Keith Millen

"We have a strong squad and, while I wouldn't rule out changes from the game at Stoke on Saturday, we will be sending out a team well capable of winning the game.

"It obviously means a lot to Ian and I, given our respective backgrounds, but in any case the Capital One Cup is a competition we can harbour genuine hopes of winning.

"A couple of victories and some decent luck with the draws and excitement will grow, so we will be giving it everything in the early rounds. Both Ian and I know that Ashton Gate is never an easy ground to visit and we will pay City full respect.

"When the cup draw was made Ian and I burst out laughing. Our first thought was who would walk out first and which of us would receive the most cheers – or boos! We don't know what to expect, but I'm sure there will be some fun and games as we make our way to the dugout.

"I spent 12 years at the club in one position or another, so I will always have an affection for the place. I had a great relationship with the fans throughout my time there. Ian is first and foremost a proud Bristolian and I think City fans have come to realise that over the years."

Sean O’Driscoll

“Ian has the options to change things if he likes, I don’t think we have that. Ian has been there in the Premier League before, so he knows what his squad will need in the top flight over the coming months.

“It’s the early part of the season so he may feel his players need to get some more game time. But also they’ve got a big match against Sunderland at 5.30pm on Saturday.

“I don’t think you can second guess it. I think whatever team he picks will be strong, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few changes.

“Everyone would like to know the opposition line-up before you play them but Ian’s way of playing is well documented anyway. They’ll play with a front three, who will be really mobile and they’ve a good core too.

“They’ve been through a difficult Championship season and Ian has stuck with the majority of those players now they’re in the Premier League. I’m sure those same players will want to play in every game.”
