Wayne Hennessey spilled for the opening goal

Crystal Palace were thrashed 4-0 at home to relegation rivals Sunderland.

The Eagles have slumped to joint-bottom in the Premier League after putting in possibly the worst performance of the campaign.

It started of terribly after 10 minutes when Wayne Hennessey – not for the first time in a Palace shirt – gifted the away side a goal by spilling Lamine Kone's header.

Then James Tomkins – not for the first time in a Palace shirt – lost his marker and allowed Kone to get up and blast home the rebound.

The game was over after three Sunderland goals in quick succession right before half-time.

On 43 minutes, Didier Ndong struck a brilliant left-footed strike from outside the box to the bottom right corner.

In first-half stoppage time, Adnan Januzaj teed up Jermain Defoe whose fantastic turn and shot went into the back of the net.

Then in the third minute of injury time, the pair linked up again with Defoe netting his second.

"You're not fit to wear the shirt" was the chant from the Eagles fans.

The Palace players were booed off the pitch at the half-time whistle and one supporter went on to confront Damien Delaney.

Andros Townsend came on for the second period (in place of Delaney) – and not for the first time in a Palace shirt – failed to have any major impact.

Palace's woes were compounded when they had to play the final stages with 10 men after Scott Dann limped off with a hamstring injury and all three subs had been used.

On this performance, the players deserve to be relegated to the Championship.

Palace: Hennessey, Ward, Tomkins, Dann, Delaney (Townsend 46), van Aanholt, Puncheon, Cabaye (Ledley 25), Zaha, McArthur (Remy 61), C. Benteke.

Not used: Speroni, Fryers, Sakho, Flamini.

Sunderland: Mannone, Kone, O’Shea (Lescott 57), Denayer, Jones, Ndong, Larsson, Rodwell (Gibson 52), Oviedo, Januzaj (Pienaar 77), Defoe.

Not used: Mika, Manquillo, Khazri, Borini.
