Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace still await their first league points and goal of the season after they lost 1-0 at home to Southampton.
In doing so they set an unwanted record by becoming the first side in top-flight history to lose their opening five matches without scoring.
Roy Hodgson failed to inspire the Eagles in his debut outing as new manager and they sit rooted to the base of the Premier League with zero points.
Palace went a goal down after just six minutes when Dusan Tadic's cross-shot was parried by Wayne Hennessey to Steven Davis, who fired in from 10 yards.
The Eagles were unlucky not to level after Christian Benteke's shot was blocked by Fraser Forster, and after the break, the Saints keeper denied Jason Puncheon from close range.
But apart from that, they never really looked like scoring and Hodgson will need to be at his inspirational best if the Eagles are to stay up even at this early stage of the season.
Palace: Hennessey, Ward, Fosu-Mensah, Dann, Schlupp, Townsend, McArthur (Milivojevic 69), Cabaye, Puncheon, Loftus-Cheek (Sako 78), Benteke.
Not used: Speroni, Van Aanholt, Kelly, Tomkins, Lee.
Southampton: Forster, Soares, Hoedt, Yoshida, Bertrand, Romeu, Davis, Lemina, Tadic (Van Dijk 87), Redmond (Ward-Prowse 85), Long (Gabbiadini 90).
Not used: McCarthy, Targett, Stephens, Boufal.
