The lack of proportion is frightening. What sort of world are we making for ourselves ?

Yes the use of words was poorly judged for a football chairman on TV but he has apologised and was just being honest about his opinions.
These pathetic witch hunts mostly perpetuated by people with agendas must stop. It's like some of the human race has regressed to the mentality of children. Stop being afraid of and offended by words and worry about things that really matter.
Do we really want to live in a world where you can be proverbially hung, drawn and quartered for stating a personal opinion or the clumsy use of words ?

Think about it.

Thank you for posting a vivid example illustrating one of the ills of our society much better than I could have.

Let's not evolve to a more civilised point where we reject and condemn (not hang, draw and quarter)casual racism in everyday speech Funny how so many of those who say "what's all the fuss about/why are they so over sensitive " aren't the recipients of the remarks.

Why don't all these do-gooders stop letting political correctness run wild and concentrate more on going to a Chink restaurant for a good old dim sum and get in a few good "slitty eye" jokes for good effect?.The Chinese like it really, everyone knows that.

Let's get Moody back asap, try and replace Warnock replaced with Malky and applaud Dave Whelan for his comments in a 2011 radio interview that it was "out of order" for black players to complain about being racially abused during matches. For God's sake, why don't those players stop making such a mountain out of a molehill, quit bloody moaning, get a sense of proportion and focus on real issues like complaining about immigrants.

And while we're at it, let's set an example against these silly sensitive people by all making a positive effort to use the N word whenever possible, particularly in the presence of black people. After all, what's so bad about racist abuse or stereotypes?

Viva your common sense and proportionality! let's stop this silly nonsense and focus on real issues, and which casual racism from people with a public profile absolutely isn't. Think about it.

Japanese people think "Jap" is racist .

Quote

Do they ? For what reason ? To my mind "Jap" is just a shortened form of Japanese. Enlighten me, is there some deep-seated historical or other reason why "Jap" is considered racist ?

Incidently do Americans find "Yank" racist ? I've heard Italians referred to as "Itais" - Is this also racist [red]?

I think that's "eyties" and it's considered derogatory rather than rascist (In my opinion there's a big difference!) ...it stems from the axis alliance during WW2.

I note that Tan can't help himself from commenting on the Whelan/ McKay revelations so best to steer well clear and give the biggest $hite stirrer in the country a free platform.

Five minutes with Google will produce quite enough to enlighten yourself

It's a shame that we can't discuss issues like this sensibly without either going completely OTT as you've done or insulting other forum members as one particular individual has done.

I'm interested to know why we are all up in arms because someone thought it acceptable to call Chinese people chinkies yet this forum is absolutely choc a block with insults of every description regarding gay people and if you don't believe me just post anything with reference to Brighton and see what the results are

I accept your post as a very reasonable counter argument. I would agree that casual racism in public is distasteful and insulting if personal.
Britain has come a long way in discouraging racial stereotypes and prejudice. Unfortunately, what was once an effort by the fair minded to improve society has now become a crusade by certain political entities that is constantly hijacked for self interest.
Remember, most people in this country never asked for a multi cultural society and many are not happy to now be living in a country which year on year is swamped by wave after wave of immigrants. Tolerance is something that the British do better than most and if some people step out of line occasionally then it must be put into perspective. Let's have a discussion about all the facets of imported foreign cultures that offend many Britons every day.

You have posted some doozies in the past but this one takes the biscuit. Imported foreign cultures, nobody asked for a multi cultural society! And I bet you are one of the first to say how great the Raj was and how we should have stuck with the Commonwealth and not the EU. The British Empire was built on multiple countries and cultures. It made us rich, we are still pretty wealthy in the hangover from our imperial past. Didn't ask for it? Get over yourself, we are THE country that made a fortune out of globalisation. Now we are living with one of its effects. And in my opinion in general it makes us better. I find middle aged white English men some of the most boring b*stards I ever come across.

With the greatest respect. This is one of those statement which displays a fundamental lack of understanding about history.
Britain was one of a number of countries that colonised Asian, African and new world countries until around the end of the 19th century. We competed for the rich pickings available in these territorieswith other European nations who were doing exactly the same thing. To not have played that game would have meant financial disaster for any country.
To suggest that we were somehow the bad guys in that context and that we somehow deserve to be a dumping ground for immigrants for that reason is such a daft argument that I don't know where to begin. It is the sort of argument that might be used by people who still blame Britain for the inability of certain third world countries to actually get their act together and stand on their own two feet with proper government that makes proper provision for its own people.
It's easy to blame the Brits for all your ills isn't it. And it's funny how so many people want to come to a country run by such a "rotten" lot.

What the hell are you on about. I didn't say we are a dumping ground, quite the opposite. I said we benefit from our global heritage, both financially and culturally. I did not say we are 'the bad guys', history is neutral. But the past creates the future. And anyone that somehow thinks we should be 'little England' is away with the fairies.

By the way, don't you dare accuse me of a misunderstanding of history unless you know exactly what I got my Degrees in.

All of you statements are just meaningless clichés.
little England ? That's just one of the many regurgitated by the Liberal/left on a regular basis.

I don't know what your ethnicity is, but you do realise that made what many would call, a racist statement in your first post which I initially ignored.

It's just too bad if you find middle aged white men boring.
