Boss Neil Warnock rewarded Sean Scannell for his excellent displays for the reserves by handing him his first-team debut at QPR in December 2006. He then netted his first goal for the Eagles with a last-minute winner against Sheffield Wednesday later that month.

Scannell was crowned 2007/08 Young Player of the Year and Vice Presidents' Young Player of the Year after an impressive breakthrough into the first team from the Academy side. He was also named Ireland's Young Player of the Year.

It marked an excellent campaign resulting in a call-up to the Republic of Ireland senior squad after sparkling for Ireland's Under-18s. Scannell failed to hit the heights of his debut season but will no doubt be aiming to develop further over the coming year.
