Dougie Freedman

Dougie is in his second spell at the club after originally joining from Barnet in 1995 for £800,000. He went on to score 34 goals in 100 appearances in a successful two-year spell.

He sensationally scored two wonder goals, coming on as a substitiute in the play-off semi-final with Wolves, which put the Eagles in a great position to get to the final and eventually get promotion.

In 1997, he couldn't agree a new contract and to avoid losing him on a Bosman free the following season, Palace let him move to Wolves in a deal which saw young Wolves defender Jamie Smith come the other way.

The Scot spent less than a season at Molineux before moving to Nottingham Forest for £950,000 in 1998. He didn't stay there for long and flittered in and out of the side before Alan Smith signed him in 2000.

He wasn't a regular in the first team line-up, with Smith prefering to use Clinton Morrison and Mikele Forssell, but the Doug came off the bench and scored the goals which proved he had not lost his quality. His goalscoring prowess led to the chant: "Who let the Doug out?" which become a hit on the terraces.

Dougie will go down in Palace folklore for scoring the dramatic goal against Stockport, with three minutes to go, which ensured Palace avoided relegation to the Second Division. A few days before, his vital two goals helped Palace beat relegation rivals Portsmouth.

He has started off 2001-02 on fire and was rewarded for his efforts with an long-awaited Scotland cap against Latvia, where he scored on his debut.

Berti Vogts criminally disregarded him from the Scottish squad since. Good news for Palace fans was that the Doug signed a long-term contract at the start of 2002/03.

He netted 11 times in 34 games during 2002-03. He had to spend much of 2003-04 on the bench as Andrew Johnson was in the goalscoring form of his life. Despite this, Dougie still scored 15 goals and he had a habit of scoring crucial goals when coming on as a second half sub.

The striker only played a bit-part role in the 2004-5 Premiership season as boss Iain Dowie mostly played Andy Johnson alone up front.

Mainly used as an impact player off the bench, the veteran strike is the fourth highest Palace scorer of all-time.
