Darren Ambrose made the short journey across South London to sign from Palace's near nighbours Charlton on a free transfer.
Ambrose started his career at Ipswich Town and his sparkling displays for the Tractor Boys earned him a £1m move to Newcastle United.
A lack of first team opportunities in his second season forced Ambrose to quit Newcastle and he transferred to Charlton in 2005. The midfielder went on loan at former club Ipswich at the end of 2008 to ease the Addicks' financial problems.
On his return to the Valley, he eventually suffered the pain of relegation and ended his tenure after 112 appearances and 13 goals to sign a two-year deal with Palace.
Ambrose had a breathtaking first season with the Eagles, scoring 20 goals from midfield and was intrumental in the team avoiding relegation.
