Its a new religion this gender Ideology. Its being pushed on people and in schools.

Its confusing young children. They are going home asking their parents if they can change genders.

And as for the new sex education being pushed on young children its basically grooming them and making them sex aware.

As for bringing drag queens into school for "Story time" most of these men its a kink of thiers wearing womens clothing. Half the time they could have an erection while reading to young children.

Try telling kids who grew up in Ireland in the decades preceding this one that they weren't mandated to follow a religion, or that that religion wasn't hugely influential in the setting of laws that they were of course mandated to follow.

Societal trends are never going to be explained purely by one thing, and it's just an obvious fact that the overbearing nature of religion in Ireland would have had an impact on its culture - there is nothing contentious in that.

I have both living NI and married in Irish family from Generation X onwards, I literally know what I'm talking about. Your suggestion that people in Ireland were living under 'religious oppression' is hyperbolic.

I can't speak beyond that either way.....regardless, what matters is recent history.

How can teenagers and children be affected by 'decades' of religious oppression? Also, I think that's a bit racist to describe Ireland in such a manner, within this timescale. Religious oppression was, arguably, thematic further back in time but Ireland has been moving away from that for a while now. Are we to assume the radical left wing ideology will soon be sweeping the far more religiously oppressed Middle East in forthcoming years? Were the Germans, an advanced nation at the time, allowing Nazism to run rampant more as a result of rebellion against religion than Goebbels and co.'s propaganda campaigns?` You're hanging to quite a weak argument there.

I'd also argue people forever bleating on about what they subjectively identify as, to escape the failures of their actual existence, wanting to enshrine their non-scientific delusions in law, fly flags and hold parades as far more boring than anything else. It's quite ironic to counter an argument by accusing people of being 'reductionist' and weighting your position by denouncing them as 'boring'.

Both my parents and all four of my grandparents are/were Irish...

I'll let them know they are hyperbolic.

Nor should they. It's not for parents to determine the curriculum. Whether there should be an opt-out available, as there is for RE is another matter but I don't think the same considerations apply and all children must be given this advice these days.

It's hard to argue against such a flimsy statement with no source.

It's even harder to argue against someone who can't understand the sentence "decades of religious oppression".

Who stated they did not understand that? Or are you still desperately trying to keyboard warrior? It's the ultimate exhibition of a very weak character and position.

All I can say to this is If your grandparents had your ideas on this they were obviously very much in the minority.

Religious oppression in Ireland...that's what we are talking about isn't it?

I'm curious...as an aside....As both your parents are Irish why would you consider yourself English? Just going by the flag obviously....Is it just because you live in England....I have no angle or criticism related to that, just curious.

Yeah sure, just wasn't sure that's what you meant - without going into too much detail, my nan fell pregnant out of wedlock in the 60s and you can probably imagine the fallout from something like that in rural, catholic Ireland - I'm sure my grandparents feelings about the influence of the church were exasperated after a situation like that, but I don't think that type of experience was particularly uncommon.

Genuinely I barely notice(d) the England flag, it would've just been the default when I set up this account many years ago - I haven't lived in SE19 for nearly 10 years either!

I feel a lot of affiliation with both countries - I'd struggle to outright label myself as English or Irish.
