Team news

Caretaker manager Dougie Freedman is in charge of the team for this huge match with bottom club Preston after the departure of George Burley.

Striker Steffen Iversen could make his Eagles debut if international clearance is received in time after signing from Rosenborg on an initial six-month contract.

David Wright is back from suspension, but Alex Marrow (ankle) and CLAUDE DAVIS (hamstring) are doubts.

Preston defender Wayne Brown is doubtful after coming off injured against Barnsley, while Jamie Douglas may start ahead of Paul Parry up top.

Quotes

Assistant caretaker boss Jamie Hoyland

"It is disappointing when managers lose jobs but it is the nature of the game and when you are down at the bottom it usually happens that way. So they will be in a little bit of turmoil but I'm sure whoever takes over in the interim will try and get them going.

"It might be a good time for us to go and play them and if we have the same reaction as we have had against Derby - the work-rate, the desire and the attitude - then we've got a great chance of getting three points.

"The players know that this is what it is like at Christmas - you're tired mentally as well as physically. But, you are paid to be fit and paid to be footballers so whoever gets picked on Monday should be ready to go."
