Silva may be alright, but I wouldn't judge him on Hull's resurgence. Honestly, even Pardew can do that. I think Mancini would be a way better option, but TBF I really don't know either of them! This is a good squad at Palace now and all we really need is any manager that ACTUALLY knows what he's doing, as opposed to looking pretty in a suit and hoping the players and staff know what to do. Because THIS mob of players need a firm hand. They need to be more professional, fitter and mentally tougher. Sam was taking them there. Hennessey lost weight and the squad was made to work-out and get stronger. We do not need another pansy manager like Pardew. I like Sean Dyche for this reason - he looks gritty.

If we try fancy expansive football again we'll be going down because we are not as good at it as other teams. All this team needs is learning how to consistently do 'the basics' and the points will come.

[BTW: Condolences Sir Sam on your mate's tragic death and THANKS.]

Actually, Silva WON'T be alright - 2 words: ZONAL MARKING

Sorry but your delusional. Pardew could've done that? Are you serious? The only reason Pardew could get away with his hung ho tactless football to begin with was because he'd been left a team set up by possibly the best defensive coach in the world. He still had players at his disposal.

Silva isn't Pardew, hes lost 2 home games in 3 years.

Silva took over a team that was in a mess before they had even won promotion. They didn't sign anyone in pre-season etc.

Silva comes in and gives them a chance despite injuries to likes of Ryan Mason. Club sell top scorer in Snodgrass who remained top scorer at the end of the season. Livermore went too. His hands were tied throughout.

On plus side he signed Markovic on loan but he also got Niasse in. Desperate times, desperate measures...although we also wanted him. No thanks. Grosicki had a bit about him, to be fair.

His home record over the last three seasons has been incredible. Ours hasn't. But his record when it comes to defending corners wasn't great...zonal marking doesn't work for me.

One easy assumption to make is he would give Luka the captaincy after working together at Olympiakos. I wouldn't be against that (sorry, Punch). Luka may have put a word in.

To give the benefit of the doubt to Silva, with a proper pre-season and backing of owners that aren't trying to flog the club, he could have kept them up.

Is he right for us? Well a lot of people seem to want him. He seems ambitious. We would be a stepping stone if he worked wonders. But if I had the choice of him or Chris Coleman, I would go Silva. I love Wilf to bits, but he's no Gareth Bale. Bale (and Ramsey to an extent) made them tick...not Coleman. Sure Joniesta will be praying for Coleman. Ledley may even be thinking he could stay after all if Coleman comes in.

Parish knows we need to move quickly. Unlike many others, I trust him to get it right.

People need to stop comparing quality young managers who can get a team playing with Pardew. They are 2 very different beasts, Pardew is just as "let's be f***in Avin ya" as Allardyce or Pulis, only he attacked more and didn't have a clue what tactics were. The timing of this could all work perfectly for us, we're ready for something new.

I've seen people say because he managed luka. We should go for silva really. If that's the case Paul lambert signed Benteke. Would you want lambert ?

Good balanced post by Red Eagle. Makes the argument for Silva and raises the doubts of him too rather than dismissing him as a nobody.

And like Red Eagle I trust Parish to get it right. Concerns and direction will all be discussed in interviews.

Quite. For that matter Townsend has played under Woy (for England). That does not make Woy a good bet.

The thing that's most upsetting is that we worked so hard on defensive shape and discipline under BS we were starting to look like a really capable side. Whoever we get in has to start that whole process of getting a style imposed on the players from scratch. At least we have a preseason.

Yeah my wife toom but says he's too short so prefers Delaney.

If he gets the job perhaps the five of us could get a seat behind the dugout and whisper to Jim to arrange an Orby in the south Croydon travelodge? (toys next morning for as much as you can eat brekkie) to refuel for round two

Ate least that would give HOL members an excuse to continue using insulting terms for our manager
