This amused me.

Perfectly frames the problem with internet discussion. The irony of someone asking for qualifications to disprove the thing they just posted entirely without qualification is delicious.

He might be correct on the dampness and pathogens bit but masks do make it difficult to breathe. The extent of that will be what you’re doing and which mask you’re wearing. If you could breathe the same then the footballers would be wearing something tight over their mouths and noses. Personally if I’m walking quickly I’m breathing heavier through my mouth and it’s far from natural. Most people aren’t because they’re strolling round.

Any advice on where to get a multi layered one for when I might need to wear one and longer than a short time.

"Health Secretary Matt Hancock says new variant of Covid-19 found in parts of UK
Hancock says it's thought the variant is contributing to faster spread in southern England
But he says there's no indication it causes worse illness or will not respond to vaccine"

But then it will cause a worse illness and then it won't respond to the vaccine and you will need another vaccine.

Have people not realised how this works?

Happens every year with the existing flu vaccine. No sure I see the point being made here.

Only minor alterations are required to update the flu vaccine, as you already have the 'base' solution. It's not like the whole process has to start from scratch again.

Unless I'm missing something, the same practice will apply for the COVID vaccine.

I don’t believe anything that b3llend has been saying today. There are several reasons for more positives at the moment before inventing and serving more fear dinner.

Are we locked up during flu season? Are we coerced into testing or taking a vaccine or being "tracked" by the government?

I think there is a difference between 'difficult', which implies suffocation, and 'more effort'. As before, it also depends on the mask. Medical grade are supposed to be harder to use, it's the trade off between comfort and absolute protection.

I've been using a 'U Mask' model two for the last few months (F1 use them across the paddock) – two piece, and five layer, with a thin swimsuit style outer and a replaceable antibacterial inner filter that is allegedly good for 150-200 hours. I wear it about 1 hour a day on average, so for me, the filter is good for 2-3 months.

At the start of this I tried quite a few different options, this one is by far the most comfortable of the lot and crucially offers some level of antibacterial element. But, would I wear it 24/7? No. Not unless I had to.

They're not cheap though, and you still need to wash the outer lycra layer regularly, but I'd rather wear something that offers some sort of protective barrier for myself and others than a piece of cloth.

Is this the same as the 'normal' flu?

Your comment implied that yearly or successive vaccines are somehow abnormal.

Also, we have a vaccine for 'normal' flu. So what you're saying makes no sense. If we had no flu vaccine at all then yes, we would be.

Do you not understand how this all works?

this new variant only affects people in london, once you go from selsdon to caterham its ability diminishes

There are several new variants, many of which are likely weaker even if they do spread faster. There's no reason to believe that the vaccine wouldn't help against it. Don't panic, the government is already good at doing that for us.
