I suspect our supporters would be filled with glee if Brighton were in difficulties.

Honestly, I remember that the rivalry had nearly gone when they didn't have a ground and looked like going into free fall in their council ground. I don't remember us being particularly gleeful. At least, they're, just about, worthy rivals again. Sh1t obviously, but that goes without saying.

Actually I felt sorry for them when they nearly went under, imagine having to go to Gillingham to play your home games, you really wouldn’t wish any trip to Gillingham on your worst enemy

I second this.

For someone from Lewisham, originally from Peckham, I have never been anywhere, in this world, so mindbendingly awful as Gillingham. I cannot assert this strongly enough.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Certainly not the most salubrious locations I have ever visited.
I heard a gentleman once say that he would find more enjoyment out of colonic irrigation than visiting Gillingham.
Steve Bruce started his career at Gillingham FC.

I think you'd find more intelligence, decency, humanity, sanity and a far better fragrance in the results of colonic irrigation than you would in Gillingham.

It looks like a holding venue for failed applicants to the no longer Jeremy Kyle show. Or as though they've taken the worst 0.1% of beings in this country and decided to design a place to pen them all together.

I believe my last visit to Gillingham was several years ago when I was a participant in a team partaking in a football quiz in a challenging league competition.
The event took place against Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium and I recall having a conversation with one of the opposition regarding goalkeeper John Simpson who had made over 600 appearances for the club.
I have of course visited the ground to see our team play standing behind the goal on the open terrace.Don't think there was too much pleasant fragrance in the air !

I used to work at 'Chatham Maritime' and would often walk in to Brompton (basically part of Gillingham) to get a sandwich etc or drive into Gillingham itself (if other shops were needed). I can only endorse all the negative comments about the town hitherto made in this thread!

Like Willo, I have also watched the Eagles play at the Priestfield. I also went there once to see Welling United play in the final of the Kent Senior Cup. I knew how to live, back in the day!!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Best of luck anyway. Watford aren't exactly our favourite club but I speak for the majority of Palace fans when I say we don't like to see clubs in trouble. We know only too well how it feels. Keep in touch Superhorns.

Cheers- I guess we are just going back to our natural position (hopefully not worse !)

Just a shame we didn’t build on the very good season in 18/19 (bar the cup final ) and now there is a lot of frustration and anger (by Watford standards!) at the owners and team .

Got quite toxic tbh - much more so than in the last relegation season .

Doesn’t help that the club have set up some sort of fans forum thing but only invited a select group of people from podcasts and social media ..and told them not to make these meeting public .

Talk about alienating other fans !!

I'm not surprised by that. Your team does strike me as a somewhat merry-go-round of 'Whooo?' players.

The whole running of the club seems bonkers at the very least and I can only assume that detracts from the personal identity and ownership of their team fans would feel.

I hate Watford, or actually, I love to hate them but do think of any genuine football fans as kindred spirits. I hope the doomsday scenario you are envisaging (as I would were the shoe etc.) does not come to pass and wish you not the best, but at least some luck in regaining your club without too much damage inflicted.

I’ve had that ‘pleasure’ as well, we played them 4 years on the trot in the early 2000’s before they got relegated. In fact they’ve still got the same ‘temporary’ scaffolding stand that they had back then in the away end.

I think the issue is they got complacent and and thought the easy solution was just to sack the manager without really recruiting well.

COVID hasn't helped of course but it's hit all clubs apart from the big boys I suspect.

One thing to sack a manager at the end of each season but to have 2/3 person season isn't ideal.

Clearly if 3 managers cannot get us to defend or score goals consistency then it's an issue with the squad and it's quality.

We've been ok on the road but let in 12 goals in 4 games at home!

Only been once.

On Boxing Day 2004 - we lost 1-o to a penalty.

(Mind you least it wasn't an 11.15 kick off like Reading the next year!)

Don't think it rained though.

Surely they must have been told to do something about the stand though by now?

Rest of the stadium isn't bad actually - guess Gillingham must have spent all the money on those stands!
