Do we really need a new striker?

After hearing Gary Neville saying that Brighton's scoring problem is not a coaching issue but that they are missing a top drawer striker (the kind that will cost them £50mn-£60mn and so is probably beyond them) made me wonder if we're really so badly off?

Looking at the PL table we are 7th top scorers with 30 goals with Wolves (14), Brighton (21) and Spurs (23) all some way behind us. We maybe don't have that top marque striker that every fan craves (and, like Brighton, probably couldn't afford anyway) but actually, do we need one? Scoring isn't our problem is it?

Thoughts would be welcome - is our leakier defence more the problem and could that be resolved by coaching, or do we need new blood? (Bit of both I think.)

You can't change the way things are but you can change the way you are with the way things are.

we need a striker than can score 15 Pl goals a season. It would be great to get one who scored more but I think that is our price range. We also need the midfield to chip in with a few, Olise and Gallagher are doing their bit but the others needs to contribute.

I think I heard the commentator last night saying that Connor Galagher now has 7 goals so far this season (after scoring) at about halfway through the season, if he gets 14 goals this season that's a serious amount of goal scoring ability not to have available next year (let alone the Duracell bunny work rate)

A good question. There is a danger in relying on a single striker to get you 15 plus goals. Man City don't even bother to play a striker and they're matching Liverpool despite Salah's amazing goal return. Yes, I know they're Citeh and we don't have anything like their squad.

As Dubai Eagle has said, we'll lose Gallagher next season (and he's responsible for 20% of our league goals).

I am happy that other players are contributing a reasonable number of PL goals:

Zaha 5
Edouard 5
Benteke 4
Schlupp 2
Olise 2
Guehi 2

Like others, I'd like to see Ayew score more. Also, it would be good if Hughes and McArthur would start to chip in (I expect Eze will be scoring the odd goal or two before the end of the season).

I don't think we NEED another striker at present. Whether that will be the case in the summer depends on how the rest of Mateta's loan spell goes and what, if anything, happens to Zaha and Benteke.

Didn't realise, so far this season, we've had 10(ten) different scorers in all comps.

15 goals a season is our price range lol 2 players gaurentee that consistently, kane and salah, City and Chelsea find it hard enough. Benteke, Edouard and mateta are not bad options for a club of our size

We need some defenders who don’t gift the opposition 20+ goals per season. The other end will look after itself until next season.
