Dilemma, do we give it a go, or do we stick the kids & 'stiffs' in & say, go on, enjoy yourselves & therefore concentrate on the league. I seriously believe we are going to be in for a tough season this time. Just my opinion.

This really is a third rate competition and has been for some time that even lower league teams treat with contempt . You get little financial reward for being in it so playing a second string eleven is par for the course unless by some fluke you end up in the semi finals when a day out at Wembley gives it some interest and you might give it a go with a first eleven

Then again you might not .

And we still need a striker

Don’t hold your breath. It’s Roy so expect no cup run. The team will be a mix of reserves, players coming back from injury or needing game time and a sprinkling of U-21 players. No practice necessary. If anyone performs well, unless they are one of Roy’s favourites, they will be dropped or put out on loan so he doesn’t have to pick them. Same old, same old! I’ll be shocked but pleasantly surprised if we see the “new Roy”.

We get stung in this competition every year by not having our business done early, so play a second string team that's worse than our September second string team (and generally just isn't very good).

We're also always away. If we get anyone above mid-table Championship away, I'd expect us out at the first attempt.

What sort of side would we be putting out today?

Matthews, Richards, O'Brien, Tomkins, Riedewald, Hughes, Phillips, Ozoh, Rak-Sakyi, Mateta, Ahamada? Yikes.

Chelsea, Fulham and Brentford are also in the draw.

If it has to be away, Wycombe Wanderers or Oxford (if they beat Bristol City tonight) would do me fine.

I must admit I enjoyed the trip to Oxford the other year- nice ground, good people.

Blimey, that’s about 100 miles away from you isn’t it?
