It appears that an advertisement featuring the Lords Prayer will be banned in cinemas. Regardless of whether you are religious or not, this is worrying. Censorship of something like this should not be tolerated and seeing as how groups like Stonewall can plaster buses with their message, the Church should be free to produce an advert like this.

As an atheist I am also uncomfortable with this. Provided that both religious and humanist messages can be conveyed by the same media then I can't see the problem. I would be interested to know whether Christian evangelists would support other religious sects who want to publicise their message in the same way.

"Just Pray" was passed with a U certificate by the British Board of Film Classification. The above explanation covers why the Lords Prayer advert was banned.... I am an atheist and whilst I would not probably not have banned this myself, as I believe it's intentions were good - I can accept that the cinema would become a 'battleground' for differing religious/political messages and that would not be good. There are plenty of other places to spread the word of God, or any other higher being

Why should we be "force fed" religion on an afternoon/evening out at the cinema?

If- as they claim - the cinemas involved do not allow ANY ads of a political or religious nature then the decision seems reasonable. Having said that I understand the OP's wider point regarding what is and is not acceptable. Often seems it alright to offend majority groups - but less so minorities - that are often more sensitive and vocal.

I believe in freedom of expression but I'm happy to see the suppression of religious nonsense. That said, I would rather see a move toward counter education taught in schools and in the media to expose religion for what it really is.
