I don't see it as an issue of free speech being curtailed if the same rule applies to any religious or political advertisement. Honestly it makes sense, the reason you go to a movie is to switch out of real life for a while, not to have to listen to a propaganda piece.

Religion should be regulated like smoking and drinking. It should be illegal to expose children to it. Ban Religion until the age of 18 and see what happens to the numbers. They survive by indoctrinating children from a young age through fear tactics.

To expand on my previous post - we are fed blatant propaganda by Hollywood/US producers anyway. Every film has political/religious and moral messages throughout - each seeming to suit mainly a low brow American audience anyhow. Why not just go the whole hog and advertise religion? Just consider how many of the films you watch have a BS US message anyway: freedom, good family values, work hard and you will be ok, US always gets their guy, justice prevails, the list is endless. And, as I stated above, the influence of Judaism on US film and TV can feel a little overpowering sometimes - or is that just me? Red and Blue Army!

If ALL political and religious adverts are banned at the cinema then I don't see what the problem is. I'd like to see all adverts, except for forthcoming films and (maybe) the local restaurants, banned. It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

This is only a problem if religious advertisement is banned selectively. If all religious advertisement is banned then it is fine.
We are far more a secular country than a Christian one and that is something I am prepared to stand up for.

Provided their approach is consistent - the same for any political or religious group - then there is no discrimination.

Can't see the problem myself, other than using the term banned. The cinema is making a commercial editorial decision which makes sense. Politics and Religion are divisive and the the company wants to remain neutral. The point about the films being propaganda and not neutral is true, but when you go to the cinema you can choose what film you want to see, you don't have the same choice about what ads are foisted on you.
