Those houses in Wooderson Close have all of a sudden moved very much closer to their correct distance to scale from this new stand seeing as they were incorrectly placed much further away when the announcement was made.

I like the model looking into the ground. No messy gaps.

Thanks for pics Dorking.

I'm not sure how it's any of the council's business if the stand has the 'wings' on it. What difference does it make?

It is a residential area of 2 storey houses, so to erect a 5+ storey stand in the middle of it, everyone locally is going to see it.

It is exactly the job of planners to decide what they would or would not allow - aesthetics are a consideration.

If it was located in central London next to the Shard or the Gherkin, it would not be an issue, similarly if it was on a retail park like Derby or Reading's grounds it could entirely clad in sheet metal, but it is in a residential suburb amongst Victorian/Edwardian houses, so the exterior look is relevant

Just for those unsure as to where BD got this from..

"4.20 There is concern that the overall design concept (utilising both “The Crystal Palace”
and Eagle motifs) appears to be competing with each other. The Eagle ‘wings’ and the
vaulted arched form (reflecting the historic Crystal Palace Exhibition Hall) could well
be argued as being tokenistic and not well integrated into the building form and
architectural language.

4.21 In addition, there is concern that the current external form has too great a corporate
appearance, which might well weaken the conceptual motifs. Specifically “The Crystal
Palace” motif in particular, which is the preferred aesthetic, requires a lot more
development beyond the subtle illusion of its silhouette. This is not to encourage a
pastiche, but embedding a modern interpretation of the intricate ironmongery that
made the “Palace” iconic into the proposed architectural language and across the full
elevation. "

Not sure why Parish has his heart set on the wings on the outside of the new stand. I only noticed them and what they were after hearing the council's objections. Sounds like the council don't have any other strong objections.

Agree! I only noticed when Steve Parish mentioned it. I do like the concept but I guess I wouldn't be too disappointed if they had to be taken out.

Actually with those wings it could resemble a 1930's German airport.
