Not as many as locals Did they say foreigners steal more than the locals then?

Funny, how some self-proclaimed supporters of traditional British values have a problem with people calling for a boycott of newspapers they sympathise with, but I don't recall any similar outbursts from them on here when ,for example, former Tory minister for Brexit,David Jones called for a boycott of Ch 4 news earlier this year.... ...or when Grant Shapps boycotted the programme. The right to call and campaign for people not to read or advertise in a particular newspaper is a fundamental of a liberal democracy. Its called free speech..or does that only apply in our Brave New World to right wing views.. Still,at least some recognise it..like Tory MO Anna Soubry, who called on businesses to boycott the Daily Mail last December because of inappropriate language used to describe foreign shoppers. Actually, I've just looked this up and what the Mail said was: "Far East shoppers fuel £4 billion Boxing Day bonanza- Foreign shoppers take advantage of weak pound to steal deals". Do they regularly peddle hatred, intolerance and bigotry? Ah, no, that's the Mail isn't it. There's your reason I think the Guardian in particular does.

Edited by hedgehog50 (20 Nov 2017 10.36pm) There will have been mail readers who genuinely thought along the lines of, 'Facking foreigners, stealing sale bargains that should have gone to British shoppers The word steal implies taking from someone else. Quite a subtle use, but it adds to all the other subtle negative connotations. That's how you ferment a frother.

The newspapers are just something we use to keep old people busy when they are not voting. Anyone who reads them is just looking for news they want to hear. Just let them churn out the same guff they have for 20 years, the papers will be dead soon enough and the rest of us wont even notice...
