Mateta looks slow, gangly, low work rate, and unable to do anything other than wait for a brilliant cross. How is that any different than Benteke or Sorloth? Really, Mateta looks like the the stupidest signing we've had in recent years, which is really saying something. Give the bloke a break ffs. I say before the game, whatever happens we need to give him some slack. What service did he actually get? Ziltch. We are rubbish atm but to have a go at a young debutant in that display is very poor and unnecessary

He even came back to his own box to get the ball himself a couple of times. Just to feel it on his boot probably.

After watching us, he's probably happy he only signed on loan and can join a footballing club afterwards.

Too early to judge. Whole team was poor.

They can’t all be totally crap playing at this level and why we need a fresh approach. We keep trying to change our centre forward to score goals, whereas in reality we should be changing our ageing midfield and our way of getting the ball to the striker in the first place.

Why we chose Bats over Gallagher, is a question I would like our PR Guru to answer

He didn't look great but it is way too early to judge a young man.

My mate compared him to Sanogo, which is harsh I suppose given that he’s playing up front for a team that looks clueless and out classed a lot of the time. Edited by monkey (09 Feb 2021 9.26am)

Hallelujah...spot on! (plus of course we should be changing the dinosaur managing them) Wise up Mr Parish
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong |

Yes absolutely spot on. You cannot blame the lad who got no service all night. It is the midfield that needs to be sorted. I look at Croydon lad Emile Smith Rowe and wonder why he gets snapped up by Arsenal and not Palace. Mind you even if we had, he'd probably be classed as too young and shipped out on loan somewhere. And why not give some youngsters a chance to at least sit on the bench like other clubs do. Instead they are told they are not good enough by the manager!!

I lost count of the number of times last night i was saying just cross the bloody ball. We need an out and out winger who doesn't like to cut in and shoot but prefers to whip the ball in. We can't expect Mateta to score unless he gets some decent service. As for Ayew he does some good stuff but I have tw complaints: 1. His decision making last night was poor shooting and dribbling in stead of crossing the ball. 2. He doesn't know how to play in tandem with his strike partner, he plays too far away from him and not off him. Edited by Badger11 (09 Feb 2021 10.11am)

For far too long we have been a dreadful watch and when one considers our home performances and results, the team have totally failed supporters who made the journey to Selhurst Park hoping and praying for at least a shot on target.
