Andy Gray, possibly my favourite ever Palace player. Not the best, just my favourite. I think they are still looking for half a dozen 1980's Mitre Delta footballs he launched into orbit when shooting/passing/f***ing about and doing what fancied, as was his want.

Whether his opinion regarding the managers position should carry any more weight than anyone else's is another matter. I would say possibly not, but it is good to hear from him.

There's 300 pages of names but I've hardly seen any viable alternatives. The candidates mentioned would either never accept the job or would not be a certain upgrade. Are we at the point that some supporters would rather just hire the boy that stocks the shelves at Sainsbury's to take over as manager so a change could be made for change's sake?

I reckon we are going to do a Fulham on it next season and get 7 or 8 loan players with an option to buy in with a few from the current squad and our accademy . look at Fulham and how much they have improved . A cunning plan .

It is evident for example that Lampard at Chelsea had virtually written off Rudiger, Christensen, Alonso , Hudson Adoi and Jorginho. All have been reintroduced into the squad by the new manager and are contributing to their current good form. Hodgson has been with Palace for a while and it’s quite evident the type of player he favours; this is reasonable if the players perform to his instructions and meet his requirements. However, it can make it difficult for others to get a genuine opportunity. I acknowledge that Sorloth and Meyer didn’t pull up any trees when selected. However, they never seemed to have the trust of the manager. Would another manager have given them more opportunities as Tuchel is giving to the Chelsea outcasts? I suspect on Saturday that Eze may not be selected if Schlupp and Zaha come back in. If one of the injured midfielders return, Jairo may well be left out. It could be argued that Jairo deserves to be left out as his form has been poor. But as I see it he’s trying to play like Mcarthur or Mcarthy and this busy, hustling style is not his game so he’s been set up to fail. Jairo has just been given a new long term contract and Eze signed a long contract upon joining the club. Excellent post Patrick, The argument that managers have favourites or ignore certain players to suit a style is highly persuasive and can leave potential stars sidelined for large swathes of their careers.

Surely if Hodgson had those Lampard write offs, all our troubles might well be little ones. This has always been Hodgsons biggest headache , he simply hasn’t got anything like that group of players in reserve that offer any great improvement on his small best group. It’s arguable he hasn’t got first choices to match those players. Hence the succession of cup loses , and struggle for points when ever he is relying on the mixture of stand ins, available. It would be a minor miracle if anyone could squeeze anything more out of our squad. They have been proving where their level is long enough.

If it was a case of a complete change in emphasis , and course, with a youthful team the aim. Lampard, would be fine by me. But I would not expect it to happen over night, and some spending would be involved, because there is no way, even allowing for some promise in the academy and under twenty threes that it would not need some quality signings to hold it all together. The real questions would come if it didn’t work out straight away, and there was a relegation. Would they lose their nerve? I think he’s done very well turning things round after a shocking start. Very good recruitment and has them playing solid but purposeful football.

I think he’s done very well turning things round after a shocking start. Very good recruitment and has them playing solid but purposeful football.
